Key fobs on Ebay
Sooooo... my remote was looking kinda crappy, so I started looking around for another. I really dont like the look of the factory ones with the gray and silver, then I found some on ebay that are solid dark gray. Very happy with it...

If I were you, I'd order a switchblade key from a vendor here. Heeltoeauto sells them.
Here's the link.

Again, personal choice but I like the switchblade, smaller in my pocket and it feels perfectly fine starting my car.
nice I didn't know this was an option, I like the thought of having less things in my pockets, kinda the reason I got my iphone wallet case, so I don't have to carry a wallet in my back pocket anymore :P
auto ignition? do you mean the one touch start like in the 07-08 TL?

When you turn the 07-08 TL or MDX key just once and leave it, it'll start the car.
On 04-06 TL, you have to hold the key in "on position" until ignition really kicks in to start the car
I love this key, https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=902797
But says Honda and no panic button, plus I don't trust myself with cutting the key and replacing it blah blah
Ahhh, ok. I misunderstood. You have to hold the key in the start position in my car also to start it. I had a 2013 MDX loaner a while back and I thought I had to do the same with it, but it's been a while.
What is the range like on you guys' fobs (04-06)... I just put new batteries in mine and sometimes they wont work unless I am 2 feet from the drivers door, other times it will work up to about 10ft... but no more than that. It used to work up to about 30ft... sorry to threadjack.

Brand new batteries, too.
I was pretty jealous when I saw a girl unlock her old civic from so far away on campus yesterday.
OP, Thanks for the link... i don't like the 07/08 fob either. I would get one if I liked it. The reason I don't like the newer fob is because you cannot separate the key from the fob and therefore it is heavier than the older style fob. There are some advantages of being able to remove the key from the fob. For example, if you want to leave the car running and lock it while you leave the car, then its nice to have the fob separate. The most important reason for me is when I go running. I have light weight shorts and the newer fob is so big and heavy, it would bounce heavier in my shorts and pull my shorts down after a little distance. So, I like the older style one because it is lighter and smaller.
I'm in the process of changing to the switchblade key from Heal&Toe now. The key seems pretty sturdy to me.
There are definitely some advantages to the separate fob .vs. switchblade which is one reason I'm going to have a total of 4 keys. If I ever find myself needing to leave my car running (but locked), I'll use the original fob. For most everyday situations, the switchblade will be a nice and easy upgrade that I'm looking forward to having.
If you guys do go this switchblade route, I have the following information based on my ongoing experience:
1. I have yet to find a locksmith that can program an OEM key. The two I talked to in my area can only do this if you buy their keys. I didn't know enough to ask them if my OEM keys would stop functioning in the process. Since I already bought an OEM key I had to abandon this route and go with the dealer solution instead.
2. Acura (Hoehn in Carlsbad) will cut/program the key for $89. It's standard procedure to need to leave your car with them for a couple of hors for the procedure since they need to reprogram ALL your keys in the process. I went to do this yesterday and forgot the valet key and wound up aborting the operation. I'll head back on Monday with all my keys.
3. I found a great tip in another thread about using clear finger nail polish to cover the new switchblade buttons to protect the finish. That's an easy thing to do.
4. HealAndToe offers a great service and I would highly recommend them to get the milled key if you go the switchblade route. It took about a week to receive key once I ordered it which isn't that bad. There are some other good vendors for getting original OEM keys. I liked keylessride.com for getting an OEM replacement key but there are lots of vendors.

You must not run with a phone either if the key is too heavy. I do understand the problem having run with loose shorts before. You can tie your key on your shoes possibly and use an armband for phone and key if it has a pocket that fits the key.
It sounds like you are conservative with the weight of the switchblade. The switch blade is larger in size and it contains the key. I remove the keys with a "quick disconnect" and run only with the remote. Its so light that I don't even know it is there. Sometimes I grab my pocket to see if it is still there. But I dont wear the key on my shoe because it is annoying. I tried that. And I don't wear any arm bands because it will leave a tan line. haha
^ yes I weighed the fob with key attached so the fob-only weight would be less. I usually run from home and don't carry car keys so weight is no issue for me. The point I was also trying to make is that any key is certainly lighter than a cell phone that I sometimes will run with.
Thanks EvilJoker !!!! I was just looking at how crappy my FOB looks the other day. I was just going to start using the driver 2 fob which has been sitting in a drawer for 8+ years. But will probably just grab one of these for the $10. I too am not interested in a switchblade.
