Key Fob/Keyless Remote

Hey guys, i just purchased a 2007 TL Type-S.

The previous owner gave me only 1 key with no alarm remote/key fob.

My question to you guys is, can I purchase a remote on ebay/craigslist and program it myself or does this need to be done at the dealership? Any advice will greatly be appreciated.

Already did a search but didnt come up with anything.

Thanks!

welcome to the forum
try posting this in third generation --this is gen2 99-03, you have more sophisticated remote than us

first you need to learn which model remote your car needs- say there are A and B models within the TL for that year
ebat ones are fine if OE, we have several dealers here- see Vendor list at top of pages
they may be able to determine your remote needs by VIN?, and sell it at substancial savings
might even be able program it for you or tell you how
See gen3 DIY list for self programming if its possible

register with www.owners.acura.com get free download of the car owner operator manual there, store radio nav security codes and lots more
also reg with 1 800 3282 2238x5 acura customer care-usa cars
ck all recalls are Completed/`FIXED`

Ck MrHeelToe in sponsored sales threads of The Black Market
or www.heeltoeauto.com he is one of our sponsors and sells a switchblade key
thats a key with ther remote functions built into the handle part of it

'07 - '08 TL models have switchblade keys unlike the '04 - '06. The top one is the '04 - '06 where as the bottom one is the '07 - '08.

Is your key the bottom or top one?

^his is probably neither. from his OP, sounds like he just has the spare/valet key. no keyfob.

get yourself 2 keyfobs (like pictured above) and heeltoe (a vendor on this forum) can program and cut them for you. but you'll have to send your other key in as well.

OR go to the dealer and get it programmed/cut.

Ahh . . . I had completely forgotten about the valet key. If he uses the valet key to be cut/programmed, it won't allow his new master key(s) to open/lock the glove compartment.

Yea all he gave me was the valet key which is just a basic key.

I would love to have an OE fob/switchblade key but i dont want to pay an arm and leg at the dealership.

Personally I'd go back to the dude you bought it from and make him find the fob.

But that's me.
