Just paired a v710 to TL

A friend just picked up a new V710 today so I immediately went to his house to check it out. The pairing of the phone was very easy and took a wooping one to two minutes. The good news is that the 'caller id' worked well, at least displaying the incoming phone number. I wasn't able to play around enough to see if I could get 'name & number'. The voice dialing worked well as did send the dial command from my TL personal address book. On the down side there was no 'Signal Strenght Meter' or 'Battery Meter' displayed, but i guess that could be fixed with future firmware updates.....

Find someone in your area with a V600 or go to a T-Mobile/Cingular/At&t store to see if the data cable fits the V710, if so then chances are motorola will come out with some updates in the near future.

RE: Will Not Work for Me

Yeah I tried as well, following the instructions but did not work. I called Acura and the rep said officially they currently do not support V710 [yet] since it's going through testing. There is no date as to when testing will be completed.

Anyways, since nukeman says he's seen it work I'll spend more time trying this afternoon and will update w/ instructions if I get it to work...

My V710 paired just fine. I had to put the Phone and the Acura into discovery mode within a few seconds of each other though in order for them to find one another. ...and also use the same 4 digit code. That's the only tricky part as far as I know.

RedHawk,

I tried as you suggested but no luck.

For a sanity check here's what I did:
1. TL voice cmd: phone setup -> pair -> 4 digit code -> "yes" to confirm
2. Select "find me" under bluetooth link setup

The discovery modes were done within a second or two of each other. Additionally I set the 4 digit code (TL) same as the PIN number (v710).
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Larry

Bad news. Unfortunately, that sounds exactly like what I did. Can anyone else think of anything? I'm out of ideas. Since I luckily didn't have problems, I didn't have to troubleshoot much.

Thanks - thought I was going nuts.

Next stop is the vzwireless store as I tried pairing my phone with the laptop and had no luck either, so guessing something's not right w/ the bluetooth in my v710....

I'm probably just asking a dumb statement but you did turn bluetooth ON, on the V710 yes?

Ah, yeah, that does tend to help a little. When mine didn't pair at first that was the problem. It comes out of the box with bluetooth off by default.

V710 bluetooth problem solved

To answer georgeny - yes the phone did have bluetooth turned on

I went to the Verizon Wireless store and they just had someone else come in with a TL a few days ago and "knew" how to set it up. I actually had the verizon rep in the TL with me and tried to connect the phone and did not work.

The rep then pulled their V710 demo phone off the shelf and voila, worked like a charm!

Here's the steps the Verizon rep and I went through:
1. TL voice cmd: phone setup -> pair -> 4 digit code -> "yes" to confirm
2. Select "find me" under bluetooth link setup
3. Wait 60 seconds until the bluetooth icon indicator stops flashing
4. Then go to HandsFree -> Look for devices

It takes a little bit, but about a little over halfway on the progress bar indicator it then found the TL.

So it looks like the bluetooth on my new phone wasn't working for whatever reason (defective?). So I got a brand new replacement phone for free and linked up the new (new) phone and everything's good. Maybe you can skip steps 2-3? but haven't tried it yet since I was so excited that I was able to use the HFL

My advice is try RedHawk's steps, then mine -- if it still doesn't work save yourself the grief --go to your local Verizon Wireless store and swap your phone out.

Umm...guys. You DO NOT select "Find Me" under "Setup". Under "HandsFree" you select "Look for Devices".

Works perfectly.

This is the wrong way to pair. This puts BOTH devices in DISCOVERABLE mode and then neither device is LOOKING. They are waiting to be discovered by a device that is searching.

DO THIS:

put the TL in pairing mode.
Go to the phone and select
SETTINGS
CONNECTION
BLUETOOTH
HANDS-FREE
[Look for devices]

Once the phone finds the TL then enter the PIN code.

This will work fine but you do NOT need to do the "find me" step. Find me makes the phone DISCOVERABLE. You want the phone to be DISCOVERING. Thats what the "Look for devices" does.

My v710 paired up just fine the very first time...and it works great!

My only complains are: 1) with the v710 manual.....there are a significant number of discrepancies between what the manual says and what is actually on the phone....often it's just a matter of semantics....but still can be confusing. There are also some mistakes on listings of page numbers in the index. Do they proofread at Motorola?????

and 2) you can't download your own pics/mp3's, etc., through a website.......but you have to buy a transflash card and reader??? is that what I understand???

Yes, you can skip steps 2 & 3. Doing the "Find Me" thing does nothing with the HFL. You only use that if you're doing dial-up networking etc. Save yourself the time & just do steps 1 & 4.

The TL's voice prompting is rather misleading when it says "Looking for a Bluetooth phone". The HFL isn't LOOKING, it's waiting to be FOUND. So, I can see why people decide to pick "Find Me" from the V710's Bluetooth Link->Setup menu. But that's wrong. If you look at page 154 of the manual, it says that your phone must be in discovery mode, which is the [Look for Devices] option in the Bluetooth Link->Handsfree menu.

V710 or any working bluetooth phone question - quality?

Hi,

I'm the proud owner of an '04 Anthracite TL w/Navi! Picked it up 3 weeks ago (after waiting 3+ weeks of course!) and have been enjoying it immensly. This is my first post to this site.

I'm going to get a new Motorola V710 this week (service by Verizon). It looks like the pairing up between the phone and car has gotten mixed reviews, but I'm hopeful that it will work okay for me. My question for those of you who have gotten it to work - how is the quality? I have never heard a car phone that didn't sound like the person was blowdrying their hair at the same time, or standing in front of a huge electric fan. How does the person on the other end sound, and how do you sound to them?

Looking forward to my new phone! (Not as much as I was looking forward to the TL!)

Thanks!
