iSimple manual control of the Music app?

I had an iSimple Gateway installed in my non-navi 04 TL today. When I plug my iPhone 4S into it, the thing takes over the music app completely and I can't change songs or anything by just picking them on the phone display. Is there really no way to do this?

I'm pretty disappointed if there's not - using the car's controls is extremely clunky and slow/lagged - it takes several seconds for it to update on the screen when I go to select something with the right knob on the stereo... not sure how this is supposed to be a workable system while driving. Using the phone itself would be 100X faster and safer.

Thanks!
Ryan

I figured it out! The "AUX1" input on the iSimple is exactly what I wanted - just passes the iPhone audio through the dock/power cable. I'm happy now!

So how exactly do you do this? You said AUX1 on the iSimple and you lost me. How exactly do you do this?

When you first press the XM button it gives you a menu of the iSimple's input sources - you have SAT, IPOD, AUX1, and AUX2. Select AUX1 and that gives you full control of the iPhone/iPod but the audio still comes through the powered dock connector cable.

SAT = XM Radio
IPOD = iPhone/iPod full control using the stereo/steering wheel buttons
AUX1 = iPhone/iPod raw audio, control it on the device itself
AUX2 = the 1/8" cable

Oh, so press the XM button until you are on XM1 or XM2? Then turn the right knob until it says AUX1.

I tried it, but I couldn't remember how to toggle through the SAT, IPOS, AUX1 etc. At work now, will try when I get home.

Yeah to get the iSimple source menu you have to leave the car's XM source then go back to it - I just hit the FM button, then hit the XM button again and it comes up - you use the tune knob/right knob to select the iSimple's source input then, yes.

hey I have iSimple also and all worked well until my battery died and have had to reactivate it all by finding out the pin code etc. Everything works now except that I can no longer control songs with the right knob nor steering wheel channel button. I have to open up my glove box (where my ipod is) and change the song from there. any advice? Thanks.
