iSimple install problems 2005 TL
so looking on here i thought the install of the "isimple" would be easy to do. so i did it myself pretty happy close everything back up and try to use it but nothing happens the iphone 4 charges but when using FM to xm tune buttons nothing happens. i put all the dip switches down because thats what i saw what people saying that was a problem. can anyone help me or know whats wrong? the isimple is in a easy access location. here are some pictures for others trying to do it i use mechanical fingers to route the wires, a scribe to remove panels, phillps scewdriver, little hanger thing to remove plug.

Before you connect the hardness to the back of the radio did you plug up the ipod and AUX adapter to the unit? because if you hook up the hardness to the back of the radio before you hook up those two wires (ipod and aux to the unit), the unit will not reconize it.

yeah, i had the same issue. Just watch and listen to how the guy in the video says to install the wires.
first make sure all the wires are hooked up exept the one that goes into the back of the radio if its plugged up disconnect it, plug everything else up, then finally plug the wire that goes to the back of the radio last.
It should work after that.

dipswitches should be in the "OFF" position, or looking at the unit oriented with the label on top, UP. it should be labeled on the switch itself.
iphone 4 might require an update to the firmware within the isimple unit. There's a sticker on the isimple indicating the firmware revision. Mine shipped with .778b. Latest is 788b that fixes issues with the iOS 4.1. You can do this yourself or take it to a dealer.
The only issue I have left with my isimple is that if I unplug it and then plug it back in (like after i sync more music to it) it will take a minute or so to fully initialize so I can play music. I'm not sure yet if it's time or multiple reseatings of the ipod cable.
A little confusing on the way you worded it.
@OP: If you want to power off the isimple unit to reset/reseat cables, the cable he's talking about is the black 24 pin connector on the isimple.
Once the y cable is connected to the factory harness and radio, dont touch those. Only deal with the black connector as seen in the video.

dip and ez thanks for your help i just got off work and set the dip switches up disconnected the black cable left everything else connected pluged it back up works fine now. the only problem i have now is how to skip through the tracks. 6 and 5 buttons dont work
There's a quick reference card that should have come with your iSimple. Check it out for button assignments.
Also, your steering wheel control CH + or - allows you to skip tracks during playback, but the Tune wheel is faster if you have a lot of songs. Press "6" to select the song once you find it.

thanks again i had lost my booklet its cuz my girlfriend moved it under the seat, but now i have another problem after about 2 mins static comes in and goes off then the radio says IPOD connected?
In my case after a few minutes of ipod music, XM would "take over" and all I would hear is the Xm preview. On the screen it'd say "ipod connected" and do nothing.
I updated the firmware and made sure all the cables were seated properly. Fixed that issue right up.

Download for whichever operating system you have.
You'll need these:
-USB cable A to mini-B type like this one here:
http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-2700.../dp/B000067RVL
(Chances are you have a phone or camera that uses this cable)
-Computer running XP, or 32bit 7/Vista. Can also be those OSes in a virtual machine in a Mac.
-your isimple box removed from the car.
Dont change dip switch settings while the isimple is plugged in.
After you download the firmware (788b) and unzip to a folder. It'll have an .exe application and like 3 files: -the 788b firmware file, a "bootfix" file that you'll leave alone, and two files for the driver.
you'll need to install the drivers for the iSimple. Put all the dipswitches in the "ON" position, or DOWN for firmware update mode.
Plug it in to your computer, and it'll detect new hardware. Choose where to install and point it to the folder where you extracted the files. It should install as a iPod2Car board or something like that.
Once the drivers have been installed, open up the .exe application and you can update the firmware. It's fairly straightforward and self explanatory.
After you update the firmware, remove the isimple from the computer, and then put the dip switches back to OFF.
Let me know if you have any issues. If for whatever reason you dont feel comfortable doing this, just take it to a iSimple dealer.

Also after the updating process i would try resetting the module. The sequence to do so can be found at the link below.
