IPOD ON/Off Function With Adapter
I'm looking at installing an ipod adapter and will be purchasing an ipod so that I will be able to control the ipod functions from the steering wheel. Currently I do not own an ipod so I'm not that familiar with their functions. What I want to do is install the ipod in the console and basically, leave it there. I know that some of the ipod adapters will auto shut off charging after up to an hour which is important up here in the cold winter months. I would like to have the ipod start when I start the car and shut off when I shut the car off. Is this possible or will I have to manually access the ipod to accomplish this?

definitely possible. i know the peripheral pxamg unit does this - turns off a couple minutes after turning off your car and remains paused unless you are on the IPOD/AUX funtion on the head unit. you may also want to look into USASpec and Dice adapters, not sure if those do. these are the 3 most popular adapters for our cars

One of the members mentioned the Neo ipod adapter and after searching the forum I couldn't find one single issue that anyone had with this unit other than the higher cost. Cost would be worth it if it functions as indicated with no skipping, control delays, white noise, etc. It's funny that no one considers this as one of the better units to purchase?

i think there was some talk about it in the RDX forum, but I never really looked into it. go with the peripheral module its becoming more popular amongst the AZine memebers
there are a few reviews as well as writeups in the Audio section of the forum and be sure to check out the huge ipod thread...

I looked at the Peripheral but the compatibility issues on this unit indicate that the radio must have an XM button and I do not have this button and thus I crossed this on off my list of possibles.

Just to provide an update on the installation of the Neo ProLink in my Canadian 06 TL Navi. I purchased the Neo unit because I could not find one single issue posted for this unit. I installed the unit without any issues. My head unit had the empty plug slot on the bottom right (facing the back of the head unit). Connected all the cables, set the dip switches on the Neo for Direct & playlist mode and turned on the key. Pressed the CD button twice on the head unit and nothing happened. Now comes the interesting part. By using the Mode button on the steering wheel, I could flip through all the modes of the head unit, am, fm, cd, XM. Wait a minute, XM? I don't have XM, don't even have an XM button on the head unit. When I put the head unit in XM mode, the ipod worked. Not only that, I had text display on the smaller display as well as on the navi screen. Between the steering and the head unit, I have full functions of the ipod and the sound is great. This worked out way better than I expected as I was not expecting the head unit to be able to display any text, songs, albums, track. Not sure why my head unit seems to be XM capable without any XM buttons on the head unit but I'm not complaining

Fred99x ........ i'm in Toronto with an 05 non-Navi. Can you tell me what the model number is of your head unit? Take a look at the door to the tape player. You should see a 4 digit code on the top right hand corner. I couldn't make it out in the picture. If this all makes sense, i'm thinking about blowing off work tomorrow to do an install with the HON-SC1 adapter

Fred99x, where did you get your Dice unit ?
Also, it looks like Acura changed the system for 07, as my 07 Navi has an XM button, in the same spot as the US units.

Gramzee, the head unit model number is 1TB3. Fearless Fly, I purchased my Neo unit here: http://www.icarkits.com/advanced_sea...icle=1&sort=4d The head units were changed in 07. I still have the brochure for the 06 TL and there is no mention of XM as an option so that is why I was surprised to see the XM indicated as one of the modes. In all honesty, I've never used the mode button on the steering wheel before this.

Fred99x .... thanks, I think thats the information I wanted to hear. Now my big thing to decide is do I go with the HON-SC1 and have Sirius, or do I forego that and get the iPod adapter........

Fred, if you were able to get the XM to display by pressing the mode button on the steering wheel, then im sure the peripheral unit will work as well. the canadian tl'ers should make a note of this.

Yes a very good point Peter. Fred clarified his unit is the 1TB3 (noted on the top right hand corner of the tape player door), which I think us Canadian's need to confirm when wanting to do this stuff.
Now if the PXAMG plays nice with the HON-SC1 i'm WAY interested

Here is a picture of the 06 Canadian TL head unit showing the details when the ipod is playing and it clearly shows the XM feature. As a test, I disconnected the NEO ProLink and as expected, the XM does not showup as one of the modes so you cannot use this as a test to see if the headunit is XM capable.

Agreed, but I think what it tells us is that head units that are 1TB3 at least have something going on with them that when certain sources are connected to the port on the back of them, it seems that they will be recognized by the radio. I'm going to test this out with the HON-SC1 and i'll report back my findings. Maybe get to it this weekend.

The headunit is XM capable (speaking of the Canadian TL) -- Acura did not waste any more R&D (or pay more money to the manufacterer of the OEM headunit) to create TWO unique versions of the TL headunit, one for Canada and one for the U.S. in so much as eliminating the XM internals...
If your NeoLink works, and you're getting text and you're seeing the XM-1 on your navi screen, that's the proof that your headunit is XM capable .. all these y-adapter based aftermarket IPOD adapters are EMULATING XM radio ... seems pretty simple to me.

Yes, it'll work with the mini-stereo output of the Zune -- but you won't get full control over the Zune as you would with an ipod. But yes, there are two aux inputs so the zune would plug in no problem, you would just have to control the zune with the zune, not the Acura steering or center console controls

Quick question as to this relates to the OP topic, i have a Isimple Ipod adaptor installed to my 3g TL w/Navi and have been using it ever since i got the car, now i tend to leave my ipod in my car and just leave it there cause i usualy dont feel liek taking it out every single time i leave and come back and plug it in. question is will this drain my battery? like how you leave something plugged into an outlet and sometimes it still draws electricity...would this be the same with our car battery?
Any insight on this would be great.

I think the Isimple unit will charge it for about an hour and then shut off.

I have one, and I just went and looked at my iPod (5th gen) in my glove box. Last time I drove the car was dinner time last night, and the iPod still shows "charged" on the display...which leads me to believe that the iSimple is still providing power to it.
On my old Alpine and Pioneer head units in other cars, the iPod display would turn off completely after about an hour.

I have been leaving my ipod classic connected so its just a permanent hard drive of music for the past few months...
No battery problems yet...iPod is always off when I come back..and picks up where i left off if i just start the ipod again.
I suggest just watching the adapter for the first few weeks...just check in on the ipod to see if it is still on 3 hours after parking..
just stoked to have ipod in my ride finally!!!!!!!!!!!!
