Ipod & Music Link

I've searched and search, and perhaps I missed it, so I am going to just ask.

I have a 06 TL, just got it a few weeks ago.
Navi + Music Link is already installed.
Since it's already there, might as well try using the Ipod.
I have tried plugging in various Ipods with no luck. Most of them do start charging, but no luck with playing. I am assuming I am supposed to hit the CD/TAPE button to switch over to the pod. (I have also tried hitting the XM, DISP, every button to make sure, speaking of, what does the DISP button do anyway?)
Am I missing something?
I know that there have been a lot of issues and Acura has discontinued servicing, but I have seen that it does work, so I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

Should I be using a certain version of iTunes/Ipod Firmware?...

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
It is the only issue with the car, love it otherwise.

Thanks

one more

Shouldn't I be able to switch to AUX (IPOD) without even plugging the IPOD in?
It doesn't even go to that IPOD present or not.

Please help.

I'm not certain about MusicLink, but I have the USA Spec iPod module and the head unit recognizes it as an extra CD changer so I use the "CD/Tape" button to get to it and it does bring up the screen whether the iPod is attached or not. Don't know how much that helps in your search for answers.

the musiclink offered by acura had many issues associated with it and this is why they eventually stopped marketing it. not sure if those same issues are causing the problems you see, but keep it mind. as many of us have done, upgrade to another ipod integration unit - you'll like those much better. some common ones USA Spec, Dice, or Peripheral/iSimple.

I have the Peripheral unit and it is becoming very popular for its flawless integration and excellent quality.

I have a 06 TL with the Acura IPod music link installed. Sometime late last year, my ipod, iphone, and all related apple ipods stopped working with this cable. They all charge. But no play.

I called the dealer at that time and he had informed me that it is possible that the cable from the back of the radio fell off. That clip, according to him, is crap and he has had a lot of TLs come in for that. The reason it keeps charging, is, according to him, that the sound cable and power cable are two different feeds.

I have yet to get this issued fix cuz i have not be able to find the time. But i do intend on going sometime this month. Ill keep you posted as to what they find to be truly wrong

Thank you, I too am planning on going in to have them check the connection, just haven't had the time.
Might that be something I could do myself however?

paweljaro,

I just bought an 06 TL Nav with the Music Link installed. I have a 2nd generation Ipod touch. The Ipod connects and I can play music from it, but doesn't charge. I don't have much control over the playlist selections. I found that if I play a song in a playlist, the radio will start with that song and I can go through that playlist. The default shuffle feature of the music link does work. I havent been able to get the TTS software to work. It really sucks.

I took a friend's Ipod Video 5th generation and plugged it in. It charges but won't connect. The radio will not recognize it. Go figure.
I am considering purchasing the Peripheral PXAMG unit.

I have not seen how the cable connects to the back of the radio, but my experience shows my cable is fine. It works with the Ipod touch and not with the Ipod video.

Just an FYI (from what I picked up on other threads): The newer generation of iPods (and iPhone 3G) does not charge with 12V as with the previous gen iPods. They require a 5V charge that works through a different pin. A lot of manufacturers have now released adapter cables that allow these newer iPods to charge. You can search the main PXAMG thread for more details.

I have tried 5 different iPod now. From touch, 4th and 5th Gen Video, 2nd Gen... on and on. Nothing.
The only one that says it won't charge is the newest Video. None of them are detected while I try to switch over to AUX.

First, I will make a stop by Acura, just to verify and most likely update to a different adapter.

Thank you for your responses.
