iPod integration into 2005 TL

Dammit, wrong thread. Mods, please move this for me to the Audio subsection. Thanks!

====

Yes, I've searched the 3G Garage on iPod integration, but it appears that the latest post is from 2006, so now that it's 4 years later, let me ask a very basic question:

What is the best option today for integrating an iPod using the connection from the bottom of the player? I have a navi unit and I would like to retain all OEM features.

I have an 05 as well with navi, and I got an iSimple, it works flawlessly for me. It even shows the title of the song along with the artist on the screen and my ipod stays in the glove compartment and everything is controlled through the nav buttons and steering wheel.

And heres exactly what i bought.

Maybe I'll have to give this a go. Although I have not done anything for six years why start now.

i think you have to connect it behind the headunit. so you will have to take apart the dash a little bit

I installed the same unit, works great most of the time. Sometimes when I press the 6 preset and scroll it will never take me to artist and leave me stuck in the genre or playlist section. Sound quality is perfect though

Can you still see XM text ( artist and song) or is that function gone? I know some of the earlier models made you choose one or the other.

I had BestBuy install it. It costs 160 for everything including installation. I don't believe it was that hard to install as it took the guy only an hour to do.

Yes, you have to take the dash out and connect it in the back.

Unfortunately, yes you do lose the XM function. I never used it so it worked out perfectly for me.

First of all, do NOT let Best Buy even open your door, let alone install anything into your car. They do not do good work, and in fact, when i was getting my iPhone integration installed they messed up my radio which led to a long insurance claim.

Now, with that out of the way, I would just do a simple Pie X3. Look up elegant type s. He has an iphoen iontegration that you can tailor for an ipod install instead. Really opens up options if you ever want to add video and so forth.

But, just DEFFINITLY dont let best buy install anything for you.

If you have any local homeless folk, let them try to install it before you bring it to best buy, you'll probably get better results.......

....I think you get the picture. Good luck!

i'm doing my installation of the isimple 571 tomorrow. will be taking my dash out. If i don't stress out i'll take some pictures. i have taking my dash out to fix my radio but it was a pain, i whish i had it at that time but doing it again it will be the same nightmare all over. I would not pay any shop EVER to remove my dash

Maybe you just have had bad luck because Bestbuy installed my iSimple and it worked perfectly. In my old car, they installed an aftermarket head unit without any problems, and they also installed my friends sub and amp without any problems after a year. Two different stores, two different experiences I guess..

Did you buy the seperate harness for the vehicle? My xm functions still work perfectly. I hit xm button and then scroll
using the tuner knob between sat-aux1-aux2-ipod

But can you see the text for both? That was my original question.

You have to get behind the unit, usually through the drivers side footwell area. You have to remove the silver trim and then remove the plastic area that runs along the center stack. you then have to disconnect the XM plug and plug in the Ipod Y-cord, then insert the XM in to that. Button everything back up and you are good to go. Not hard, but you must be patient. Best done when the plastic is warmed up a bit. DIY found in Garage section.

isimple aux system

I did purchase a isimple sys, but I dislike it does not come with a board, you have to deal with cables and hide your ipod
