Hopefully you have all your files in order and back up you iPod. And, if you had the bad fortune of actually purchasing music from the iTunes store your DRM will come through unscathed.
Because of Apple's horrible rep for trashing iPods with new firmware (and versions of iTunes) I never update mine anymore unless I absolutely have to.
