Thumbs up iPhone works like a charm in '05 TL!

Seems to work prefectly. It has a button that comes up on the iPhone while you're on a call that gives you the option to transfer the call to the iPhone from the HFL. I still need to verify you can transfer it back with the phone too. It shows both battery meter AND signal strength! The call volume through the HFL is a bit lower than my SE K750 that I retired today, but not enough to bug me. Phone pairs fine when car is turned on, keeps pairing after phone call is done (a problem I've ahad with other phones) and disconnects nicely after you leave the car.

This is all from one call, so further tests are necessary.

Here's a pic:

I'm still going through all of the features, but the iPhone is amazing so far!

edit by datmrman:
This is a really nice thread on the iPhone's compatibility with the 3G TL's HFL system. Please do not ruin it. All rants/concerns about the iPhone unrelated to 3G can be discussed in the large iPhone thread in Off Topic: It's official - Apple iPhone + Cingular

I got the 8GB version, which is $599 -- there's a cheaper 4GB version for $399. The plans are here. But since I was an existing AT&T customer with a $20 data plan already, it's same ole same ole for me price-wise except for a $38 activation fee and the re-upping of my contract for 2 years.

It's sticker shock for sure, but when you consider you're getting an iPod, a phone, a camera, and an apple version (read: smarter) of a PDA, and kind of a mini-laptop when you're in a hotspot... it's a good deal for me.

Works 100% in the 2007 TL-S!

Battery, signal, and phonebook import.

Another nice feature is if you initiate the call using the iPhone and it's currently paired to the car it shows an option on the screen to transfer to "Handsfree Link". This is nice so you can dial a number then immediately hit transfer. Previously with my Treo I had to wait for the call to connect then speak "transfer" or dial, hang up, then speak "re-dial"

didn't work that great in my 2004...

I got the iPhone on Friday and was trying to pair it with my 2004 TL. Bad news...my HandsFreeLink system is stuck in pair mode. Even after leaving it alone overnight, it still is stuck. And since it's still in Phone mode, the sound system is screwed too. I took it to the dealership yesterday and they tried to reset the system with their mobile diagnostic device, with no luck.

I'm bringing it in on Monday to have the whole HandsFreekLink system replaced (I believe this is covered under warranty).

Oh well, I'll just listen to my tunes through the iPhone

so how long did you guys have to wait in line to get one. People in NYC were waiting since Friday.

I find it kinda sad that people were willing to wait that long, seeing as how, all you have to do (at least for cingulair/AT&T customers, and for certain phones) is to download the software, and it works exactly the same

Btw, for all you waiting for more to show up. Keep waiting, b/c Apple is already working on iphone2. The technology for what they wanted to do came out just before they released iphone. Thus, they decided to just release iphone, get people excited and make mad $$, then finish up iphone2. Steve Jobs and his people are geniuses....

hey, i was thinking, can you use the iphone to hook it up to the dom's unit and watch movies?

i didn't wait long at all...

I picked up my iPhone at the Valley Fair Apple store in Santa Clara. I got to the mall at 6pm. There were probably 500-600 people in front of me. I walked out of the store at 7:30pm with 2 8G iPhones. Even at 7:30pm, more people were still in line for an iPhone. The Valley Fair store ran out of stock yesterday afternoon or evening, according to the website.

long wait

I waited in line at 2 att stores only to have them run out of phones both times. I went at 6:00. I won't camp out for a stupid cell phone as I have a life. Anyway, I stopped at the Apple store at the mall on the way home. Walked right in (no line) and was out in about 2 minutes. It seems to have a small flaw and I might return it. When you scroll around a web site, everytime you touch a link, it jumps to that link and it takes forever. Might have jumped the gun on this purchase.

04 TL iPhone

I easily paired my iPhone with my 04 TL. I have noticed that it seems to drop off and not be paird for a few minutes every once and awhile. I notice this since I see the phone icon disappear and eventually reappear in the upper dashboard display.

Ok, and now for the real question for you guys.....

Do you have an usaspec, or any other ipod intergration unit in your car? Does the iphone play through there? If so, what happens when you get an incomming call?

Just wanting to see if this truely replaces phone and ipod entirely.

Exclamation 04 TL iphone problem

I'm able to pair the iphone with my 04 TL no problem but the minute I press the call button on the steering wheel or a call comes in, the phone disconnects from the car and doesn't reconnect.
When I turn the car off and walk away and come back, it seems to connect again (phone icon near the clock) but it still drops the connection if I try to make a call.
I do get the signal strength and battery level indicators in the MID.
I've unpaired and repaired but it doesn't make any difference.

Sounds familiar. I have made and received calls but the pairing does not seem to be solid. Wonder if the tsb about the hfl in the 04 tl would help. Or the inevitable iphone software update.

I'm curious whether the usaspec or other ipod kit works with the iPhone. My Belkin Auto Kit does not work with it. Kinda irritating. With all the hype over the fact that it uses the same iPod connector, I kinda just figured iPod accessories would work with it.

It's been a while since I've paired up a phone to my 06 TL.

I previouosly had a RAZR that paired up fine. Can somebody please give me instructions how to pair my new iPhone to the car?

LOVE the iPhone, by the way. Easily exceeds my expectations so far.

I believe you say to the car "phone options" then "pair phone." After that, the car will as you for a 4 digit pass code that you will input into your phone at the time of pairing.

Next, on your iPhone, go into Settings -> General -> Bluetooth and turn to ON. It should detect HandsFreelink and prompt you to enter the 4 digit pass code you previously told the TL.

That's it!

All this info is in the TL manual near page 200 if I remember correctly.

On my next visit I was going to. I hadn't run into any real problems with the HFL until now, except for the odd time I'd get numbers recognized instead of my voice dialing tag.

I did a system/clear on the HFL in my 04 TL and that seems to have fixed the problems I was having. It's connecting and keeping the connection and I've made five or six calls without a hitch.

iphone / HFL phonebook transfer

I was able to pair my iphone with an 07 TL w/Nav - but I can't figure out how to transfer the phonebook (as some people have claimed they've done). I can put the HFL in "contact receive" mode, and the bluetooth on the phone is on, but how do I initiate the transfer? If I just leave the HFL sitting in "receive" mode, it times-out after a couple of minutes.

Also, where do the contacts actually import into? Is it the HFL phonebook, or the Nav address book?

A bit off topic - For those of you looking for a free 411 service to use with HFL, try the google info line at 1-800-GOOG411. You can say the state, city and business name, and google will find the number and dial it for you automatically.

I imported my phonebook the following way:

Make sure your phone is paired by verifying the phone icon displayed by the clock.

On the navigation screen go to Info --> Phonebook. Select the option to Import Phonebook. It should then pull all the contacts and numbers off your phone.

You can now search them by going to Info --> Phonebook --> Search. If you leave it empty it will return all entries.

The 1-800-GOOG411 is nice but if you have an iPhone you can type it into Google Maps and it will do the same thing.

Now I feel like I'm trolling, but the DICE kit does work with the iPhone. The music will pause when a call comes in or when you make a call out and will resume when the call is ended. (It's actually kinda cool when you place a call, you don't hear it ringing and the music keeps playing until the person on the other end actually picks up, THEN it pauses)

Found a thread on the Apple support forum. Lots of other cars are having the same issue that we've identified in this thread.

They said the same thing about ipods......but I've changed the battery in my own before. Battery cost $20 on ebay, 15 minutes to change.

I'm sure aftermarket batteries will be a big thing for the iphone

True. iPods don't have replaceable batteries but Apple still managed to sell over 100 million of them so far. Besides, I've had cells for 6 years and the iPhone is my 4th phone. I've kept each phone for 2 years and I've never found the need to replace the battery, ever. Every battery easily lasted for 2 years. And after 2 years, it's time to upgrade the whole phone anyway.

When I leave my iPhone plugged in or tell it not to lock, it stays connected via bluetooth with no problems. Otherwise, its dropping randomly.

Went to try the phonebook feature again and it now works flawlessly. After all the hype surrounding the iphone, this thing lives up to it and then some.

I have a 07 TL-S. Has anyone had any luck with establishing the Phone-Data Connection in the car's navigation system so the car can communicate with the Acura server? I've tried all the easy setup options and failed.

I have an '04 that I've paired with my new iPhone. Most of the time it works well, but I also experience random disconnects. Pressing the HFL button on the iPhone does not seem to transfer to the HFL. I've noticed that things always seem to go wrong when the phone is in my pocket. Maybe the screen becomes active when the HFL dials or answers through it? Finally, it is not transferring numbers to the HFL display when incoming calls come in.

All that said, I still love my TL and my iPhone =)

We're unable to pair ours. The iPhone immediately goes to "Not Paired" almost instantly. We've lost our instruction manual for this but think we're doing it right. Can't figure out what's wrong.
'06 TL w/Nav. The iPhone's case wouldn't create a problem with it - right? It's the rubbery Incase sold at Apple, etc.
