iPhone 3GS Doesn't Play Nice with HFL

I just wanted to see if anyone else out there has had problems using the HFL with the iPhone 3GS. When I pair it, it'll work for about 2 or 3 days, then it will stop connecting with the HFL. A call will come in, I'll answer it with the HFL, and the HFL will connect and right away disconnect, but the phone answers the call.

Before some of you jump on me, i have search the forums. And i haven't found anything regarding the iPhone 3GS. The iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3GS use a different bluetooth chip set. So just because it works with the iPhone 3G doesn't mean it will work with the iPHone 3GS.

I'm surprised i haven't seem much chatter on this forum about the iPhone 3GS and this problem. So it may just as well be my HFL needs to be replaced.

Thoughts?

I used to have this issue with my ATT 8525, after I updated it to windows mobile 6 it was fixed. Your issue is with your phone, try to see if there are any updates for it...

I'm having similar issues (upgraded to 3GS from the iPhone Classis which had zero issues) and I'm betting it's something to do with the phone, the new OS, or both. I'm hoping Apple will fix it with OS 3.1 but who knows. Let me know if you find a way to fix the issues though.

No problems here. I replaced my moto razr with the 3Gs about two weeks ago. So far it's been far better than the razr. Use to have problems with delay when answering, dropped calls, etc. Not a single time since the switch.
Ive jailbroken it and loaded quite a bit of third party apps on it, but none that are specific to the Bluetooth. I'll let u know the first time the hlf goes back to it's old ways. For now i'm loving it.
Oh, 04 TL auto.

I have a 3G now running OS 3.0, having similar problems all of a sudden.
OS 2.2 was stable with HFL, 3.0 is buggy and disconnects randomly. I'm fairly sure the problem is the upgraded operating system.

i have a 3gs... occasionally get the same issue... go to answer a call though HFL and HFL disconnects and audio is only through the phone. I hope the fix comes in OS 3.0.1, but i'm not holding my breath.

Hummm... I just changed my phone from a blackberry (which only worked so-so with the hfl) to an iphone 3gs a couple of weeks ago and I can't even get the car to find the blue tooth in the phone. I read in the RL forum that I should no even turn the blue tooth on the phone, but that doesn't make any sense to me.

I know that the iphone is compatible... I also read that maybe i need to update the HFL firmware.. which I asked the dealer to do, but I don't think they did.

Does anyone have any advice for me?

The iPhone 3GS on 3.0 works fine in my '06. The pairing process went more smoothly than the iPhone 2G.

Same Problem with 3Gs

I paired my new iPhone 3Gs with the HFL in my '04 TL about 3 weeks ago. Initially, no issues whatsoever. Out of the clear blue, about three days ago, the connection started to hiccup. Would initially place the call and then drop the link. Would have to manually reconnect the bluetooth/HFL on the iPhone. Tonight, I deleted the pairing on both ends and started over. Pairing was uneventful, but the very first call I attempted after reestablishing the HFL pairing with the iPhone failed. Obviously something is buggy somewhere. Advice welcome.

You guys are scaring me, so far my 3G 3.0 is working well, with the exception that it sometimes doesn't display the incoming call number.

I guess since the 3.0 updates the Bluetooth to transmit audio too, they might have dorked something up.

I have a 3GS and same problems as described here. The inconsistent reports from different people is interesting. Maybe it's a factor of what folks have installed on their iPhones. In any case, I think we're all pretty much out of luck until some sort of update fixes it.

Yeah right... Acura entered a deal with Apple... deal was to mess up Bluetooth connectivity with the 3rd Gen TL, so that owners would upgrade to the 4th Gen and share the profits with Apple...

Acura got to do what they got to do to sell those cars...

nah man, its because you have to install, iTunes, Safari, bonjour and quicktime in your car before an apple device even considers pairing up... Can't install that in your car? fear not, apple to the rescue with the iDaptor [intead of adaptor] for a friendly price of 600bux, available from the apple store only, your devices will work like a dream

Hi--just found this thread, although I posted a separate one with the same issue. I have a 2006 TSX, and a iPhone 3GS. The problems I have encountered are mainly connection-dropping when a call is initiated via HFL. Also, intermittent connectivity issues.

So... if the problem is in the iphone, not the car, that is indeed interesting. The only firmware update I have found it 3.0.1, which is a security update. Does anyone know anything about future firmware updates for the iphone?

I suppose one workaround--which isn't really a workaround--is to get a separate bluetooth headset and use it if-and-until Apple fixes this problem. Hmm.

Ideas?

I have an '06 TL and an iphone 3GS. I have gotten it to pair and it works ok.
The only problem I've noticed is that if I start dialing on the iPhone it won't "transfer" to the HFL. If I start the call by making the command to call someone I've already stored in the HFL it works fine.
I have also had connectivity issues but assumed it was AT&T coverage issues.

I have an iPhone 3G with 3.0 software

if I dial somebody from the phone, it will show on the phone that the HFL is selected but the car will be silent.
If I put the phone to my ear, it will be silent UNTIL somebody picks up. Then I can hear them on the phone only. If I press HLF again then it transfers to the car. But only after they initially pick up.

It's kinda hard to explain but it's annoying. Other than that, I can receive and dial calls just fine.

iPhone switches to "iPhone" even though HFL selected only when I dial out

As above, I have had the exact same problem on my '06 TSX while using the iPhone 3G. When I got the iPhone 4 it worked great until I connected to my computer and had all the same settings placed on the new iphone. I have searched the phone and gone to Apple to find a setting that would keep it in HFL mode when I try to call out. Doing this without having to wait for a voice then hit the HFL button to get it to work would sure be nice. Any answers out there... tired of searching.

you could dial the number from the phone, hang up, then hit the hfl button and say re-dial.
