FINALLY!!! WOW!!
I have had this issue for at least half a year now, and have not been able to figure it out. I have the Nav2Go convertor installed in the back, do you have the same? I am thinking it may be possible that I messed something up back there, but have not had the time to check.
This is completely intermittent, and random. I have a 2004. Audio/zoom out will work sometimes, and other times it wont!
I'm amazed that someone actually has the exact same issue...

I dont have Nav2Go convertor installed. My Nav has factory configuration.
D00d we gotta figure out how to fix this issue. By the time I take it to the dealer I bet you the button will start working. Let me post this on the main page to see if anyone have heard of this issue.

Anyone seen a solution to this? I have the exact same problem on my '05 TL. It seems a workaround is to press up on the joystick, and then the zoom button will work again, but I'd love to make it go away. Seems like a software problem since the buttons do work some of the time.

Could just be some dirty contacts. Get some spray electronic component cleaner at Radio Shack or a similar store and use it liberally on the buttons in question.

Are these buttons that you use a lot? It is possible that they're just worn out.
If you are going to take the spray to clean route, I would disassemble first. If not, you'll be spraying cleaner all over the place and it'll probably run all down into the HU.
I recently took this set of switches apart and it's a bunch of small switches soldered to a board. Very easy to replace. I was going to suggest buying a new set of switches, but I just checked and it's part of the whole display unit.

3-4 yr bump FTW. Does anyone know a solution to this? My Map/Guide button and the "info" button do not work at all. I found ironic though that the "setup" button ("up" direction on the "info" button) DOES work. Also recently the "zoom out" button doesn't work. I use the navi daily for work, multiple times a day. Is it possible they've just become worn out, and how can I fix? I'm not all that mechanical. -.-

'04 TL w/ Navi
BUMP. No one seems to have a solution to this. I just started getting this issue in the last 2-3 months, '04 TL w/ factory navi. It's extremely annoying. The Audio, and Zoom Out buttons stop working. It's completely intermittent, sometimes I'll press them and they work, most times, they don't. Even within minutes of working without turning the car off or anything.
I feel like it's gotta be loose wiring or a bad contact or something, but I'm afraid to rip my dash apart.

Well part of the problem is that first you need to rip your dash apart, then remove your HU, and then you have to rip your HU apart to find out what's going on. That stops all but the very mechanical from even attempting it.

Aside from the whole tearing it out of the car, I feel like narrowing down the problem woudln't be too tough (if the problem is indeed the actual momentary switch under the button. Just check continuity on both sides of the switch, with a multimeter while pressing the button.
However, I find it REALLY odd that you're all having the issue with the same two buttons...

Just chiming in to get a head count
Ive had the issue for maybe 2 or 3 years now. Occasionally the buttons (whatever ones are to the left of the joystick) act up. I figured that messing with the joystick usually wakes them up for whatever reason. It never really bugged me, and its pretty rare/intermittent.
My car is an 04 TL with the original (and very old now) navi dvd.

Yup another "me too" here as well. I bet there's a lot more people out there with the same problem, either they aren't noticing it or they aren't on the forum. My car is a 2006 and I also have something similar to NavTool (Dom's PnP converter) as well as the Navi hack. The biggest problem is with the zoom button. I don't use it unless I HAVE to. It also has the problem with the Audio button once in awhile. Sometimes also the touchscreen. And it's not like there is anything really wrong with the screen. It is just really slow and confused at times. Once it "wakes" up it's perfect. And it doesn't happen all the time. So it's annoying when you are in a rush or something and you REALLY need it. I just resort to googlemaps on my phone sometimes and that's just sad.
It started intermittently around 2011 but by 2012 it became a regular thing. I don't think it is a "contacts" thing behind the buttons or dash because as someone said, you can "wake it up" again by playing with the joystick. And then the button works perfectly. So it is temperamental. My theory is that maybe it had something to do with the fact I did the Navi hack. I was gonna do a restore to test that theory when I had time but now reading this thread makes me rule that out too. So I don't think it is software. I think it is hardware related and by that I don't mean anything mechanical but something electronic.
I bet Acura knows well about this but what can you do? We are all out of warranty. It looks like Acura designed the Navi to last 5yrs or 100k miles, lol. The dealer will tell u to replace everything, they don't care, they'll gladly make the service department some money. There's no guarantee if you buy another one or an EBay one that it will last either, you'd be back to square one and just out time energy and money. It would be better to find the source of the problem.
So the only solution here is some genius here on AZine will figure this out or we'll all just be putting up with this. I guess worse things could happen; like the the whole system getting shot.
