How to switch Driver 1 and Driver 2 Keys...

Just bought an 07 Type S and having an issue with my keys. I started using the better of the two keys as one of them is messed up where the key wont retract all the way. When i get into the car it says 'Welcome Driver 2' which isn't a big deal, but I'm the only driver of the car so would rather be #1.

Is there an easy way to switch these so that the good key will show up as Driver 1?

The keys are totally independent of each other and not "switchable". What you can do is get another remote portion for your beat up key for like 30 or so dollars from the dealer.

I thought it was the transmitters that gave the presence of the driver......i have all three keys and just one factory remote and its the number 2...... so all i have to do is use the other key and thats it??????

IIRC, the '04-'06 TL used separate keys and fob remotes, while the '07-'08 TL has an integrated remote and "switchblade" key.
The remote's transmitter-- the fob-- determines Driver 1 or Driver 2.

Therefore, an '04-'06 TL owner [like you] will need just a remote fob, with no key, that designates Driver 1 or 2, while a '07-'08 TL owner [like OP johnfilice] will need a new switchblade key remote.

Welcome to AZ.

Yea when I put in the other Key it says welcome driver 1. The buttons on this key are pretty worn out as well from previous owner, so not sure if there is a simple way to make the better one the #1 key or if a dealership would have to.

Will Y., are you saying that I will have to purchase a completely new key for that to work like I explained?

but no way of switching the "driver 1 or 2" around between the remotes, it is already programmed into them, so other then buying a new #1 fob, nothing else you can do

as far as the key
try this:

you will still probably need your dealer to program it, but it will give you a general idea though

depending on the exact condition of the key, you might be able to get away with just part #26, which is the electronic parts, along with new buttons, and that is about $30 plus labor to transfer it over and program it (you might be even able to do it yourself, if you can follow instructions, depending on the necessary procedure)

or if you have to get a whole key it's part #22, and that's about $82 plus labor again (also if you do i would get them to cut the key itself off of the VIN, instead of copying your current key; and the entry part you can probably program yourself again, but the actual key's chip, it will have to be programed by the dealer, but then again when i had a new key made for mine, they just copied the chip's code, and programmed that into the new key)(basically saying the car is not always needed to make the new key be able to start the car; to get the entry part working you do though)

and before you say no to your local dealer; they MIGHT program it for free IDK, if bought from them, let alone not having to pay for shipping either, just gotta pick it up from the dealer

Are you in Canada or near the Canadian border, by chance?
If so, that would be understandable.
Either that or someone was playing with the MID settings. You can switch the language back to English using the MID.
