Homelink Button be used for devices?

Does anyone know if the homelink button or garage door buttons, whatever they are called, can be used to activate anything else or used as a switch to power on and off another device in the car such as a toggle switch or a rocker switch would for fog lights or footwell lights or something inside the car.

I have two rocker switches for my accord fogs and my independent stock fogs on my 05 TL and then i have a toggle switch under my dash to turn off my footwell lighting and im planning on putting in the DOMs unit for my navi for my iphone as well as a dvd player instead of a backup camera and i dont want to have to add two more buttoms somewhere else in the car. I dont have a garage so i would like to make use of this. is this possible? Thanks

Yes, you can do more with the Homelink:

As far as for other switches in the car. Hmmmm good question. I'd say it's doable but not sure what you'd need.

yeah im tired of having so many switches in the car. especially when im trying to hide them and keep the car looking OEM. Id really like to use these home link button for something else. I was really thinking of using the 2nd and 3rd homelink button for my DOMs unit when i add it to the car so i can use the 2nd button for my iphone video and 3rd button for my DVD player

I looked at doing something like that with my last two cars that had it, but I decided it wasn't worth it at the time, but have been looking at it again.

Thanks LoveMyTL-S for the link. I might use the lamp module for $12 and run it through a power inverter in the trunk.

Or I could just use this though for switches, but I don't like that it needs to have power to use. http://www.autobarn.net/plsw16.html

I just remembered when I was looking at doing this last time, I wondered if something like this would work.

Just program the remotes into your HomeLink and then hook up the control box to whatever you want to switch.

I don't know. I am kind of leaning towards no because I have never gotten the stock keyfob programed in there. I think because it only puts out a signal when you press it, unlike a garage door opener that puts out the signal the whole time it's pressed.

No, I never got the unit and tried it because I could not get my keyfob for the vehicle to work so I figured this would not work. The keyfob for the car will not work because it sends the signal only when you push the button I believe. Like you can't push the unlock button far away, hold it, walk towards your car, and expect it to unlock once you get in range. You have to keep pressing it until you get into range. With a garage door opener, you can press it far away and walk towards the garage until you get in range and it will open (at least with the ones I have fooled with).

Because the HomeLink needs to "see" the frequency for some time before it gets programmed, it seems to not let you program your stock keyfob because it is not constant.

Now I was thinking those units on ebay were like a stock keyfob, but at least this one I have found is not.

http://www.carymart.com/index.php?ma...roducts_id=113

It allows you to setup where you can use it momentary. This shows me the signal is always being sent (like a garage door opener) and should work. It is also within the frequency range allowable by HomeLink. I have contacted them to find out more.

Ok. I did some more tests with the factory keyfob. The lock button according to the LED on the keyfob does only stay on for one second so I wouldn't expect that to program into the HomeLink. The Unlock button comes on for one second, goes off, then comes back on for a few seconds to roll the window down. This appears to not be long enough to program the HomeLink though. I'm 90% sure that unit from my last post would work.

ok so i did my research on this and it seems like i can use that same box that you listed but i would need the momentary toggle version. This would allow my to use any device i want using the homelink apparently since it uses the same frequency as the homelink does. so it would be able to learn from the remote that comes with the box. I am definitly going to be trying this next week, i ordered one for $20 on ebay. if it works then this would be a great switch option instead of wiring more switches to the dash, keeping things looking more OEM in the car.

If this works ill be powering my accord fogs using button 1, my independent stock fogs with button 2 and my DOMs converter with button 3.
