High end shops in the LA area?

High end shops in the LA area?

This is driving me crazy getting ready to drop over $1,000 on a set of comps I've never heard before. I've called every local shop and most carry Focal but no Dyns or DLS. Are there any good shops in the LA that might carry the high end stuff? I'm not looking to "use" the shop to demo and then buy online. I would be happy to pay $50 or whatever they want just to listen to these setups.

Reading online reviews is frustrating. One reviewer calls a set boring. Then the next guy calls the exact same set too bright. Some might say they sound great off axis and the next guy says they have to be on axis. Some say no midbass, some say too much midbass..... You get the point.

Did you get the retailers off of the Dyn site? There is LA Audio Video on their site but I don't know if they have a set for listening. I've heard a set in San Diego and they were awesome.

My bad there is F1 Audio & Video in North Hollywood. The other was for home.

Just find a shop and get some No. 7s.

Have you tried to find some local hobbyists on the national audio boards? I met a guy at a car show once to hear a sq sub once.

I totally understand what you are saying, but the problem is when you listen to the speakers, you are listening to more than just the raw drivers. At a shop, you will listen to them on axis which you won't have available to you in the car. If you listen to a vehicle, then the particular vehicle could make a difference, the tuning, the installation, all sorts of things. You are reading good and poor reviews because of all these circumstances. Also, you will be going active with the MS-8 which will tune the set differently than when using the passive crossovers. I would buy the set that has the best reputation, a good warranty, and offers you the ability to install in the best possible way. You will then be happy!

I guess i'll do the short version since the wifi in my hotel has caused the last 3 posts to not go through.

I know this is personal preference but if it were you and you had a budget between $900 and $1500 and you were never going to compete but you wanted very good sq at high volumes and you were stuck with whatever you choose for at least 5 years, what set would you get?

I would choose the ones that sounded best to me... more money doesn't always equal more SQ.

Using the exact same criteria that you just posted, this is what I selected for my '08 TL:

They are essentially the same drivers that I use in my home setup.

With any of the speakers/drivers that you are considering you are not going to make a bad choice.

From the ones that I've heard I would go with Dyn and Hertz.

Yea at full retail they would be tough to swallow but I'm assuming that IHC knows how to get a deal.

I use to compete when i had my lexus is300 back in 03
I used all dls and I have tons of 1st place trophies. SQ was top notch. Can't go wrong with them.
After i traded my lexus i put them in the benzo now.
I'm sure you can find a dealer in LA
go to dls website and search for a dealer in LA or near you. Goodluck

I will probably never compete Matt, but if your going to invest that much into a comp. set, get a 3 way set..
