HFL Question..

HFL uses a Handsfree Profile on your bluetooth phone.. I have an AT&T WM6 8525; when using MS Voice Command and a bluetooth earpiece (on my 8125) the phone announces the call, so in the ear piece you hear "Incoming Call from John Smith".

The HFL settings allow you to choose a voice prompt or ringtone when calls come in; can someone clarify 'ringtone' for me? Is it a generic Acura pre-programmed ring or is it using the ringtone from your cellphone? if so then using voice command to announce incoming calls should push the "incoming call from.." to the HFL system - if it functions like a bluetooth earpiece anyways.

I'll try to play with it later, but if someone chimes in and let's me know it's just a generic ring that cannot be changed then what i've said above isn't possible.

Thanks!

Well I guess it won't work.. I messed with it briefly but i'm at work; it's either a generic ring or 'you have an incoming call'

It would be cool to find a way to pass the ringtone through the BT audio gateway

You are correct. It is a predefined ring.

What you can do is turn up the volume of your ringtone on your cell when it is in the Handsfree profile. That way, you'll hear not only the predefined ring from the HFL, but also your own. That is how mine is configured. Curious to see if you can turn the predefined ring off. (Most likely not)

timmah, do you have the 8525 or the 8125? I have the 8525 with WM5 and the bluetooth refuses to work. Also I can get it hooked up into my MDX, but i don't have that feature of the phone saying incoming call. Thanks

I have the 8525 running the WM6 ROM from ... a website

It's the offical AT&T WM6 that should be out soon; unless they make any revisions. WM6 by default sends battery and signal status to the TL; with WM5 you may need to use Jetwares Bluetooth extension, which can be found at www.jetwaremobile.com

I have MS Voice Command 1.6 - however on the 8525 hitting the 'voice' button does not bring audio to the bluetooth ear piece.

example..

8125 which I gave to my friend; he clicks the button on his earpiece, he hears the beep and the system listens for a command via the earpiece, and then plays it back

8525; push the button, the phone speaker beeps and waits for a command - microsoft has not figured out how to get the feature to work on the 8525 - something with the bluetooth stack.

Voice command also gives you an option to annunce incoming calls; so you'll hear incoming call from 123-456-7891; or if the person is in your contacts it should say the name

What's funny is I swear when I answer the phone I hear about .2 seconds of my ringtone through the HFL system before it picks up..

Has anyone tried to "hack" the HFL system?

Using a bluetooth enabled laptop and pairing it with the HFL I wonder if you can dig deeper into the HFL profile and modify it or change parameters.. I believe the feature i'm looking to find is "in-band ringing" which should pass the ringtone of the phone on to the hands free device it connects to. If there was a way to enable this that would be friggin awesome.

Marginally off-topic, but hopefully close enough!

I notice you have WM6 (windows Mobile 6). I have loaded WM6 on my T-Mobile Dash, and it's working good. I'm not sure how much of this HF functionality is phone vendor dependent (Dash vs. ATT 8525) vs WM6 dependent. I've tried to do the phone book import, but that option was grayed out and when I went to the Acura HF site, it showed that my phone did not support that activity. But it DID suggest that importing a single number should work; I tried it today, but on my phone, I see no option to 'send' the number to the car in the Contacts menu. I have 'Send Contact->Beam', and 'Send Contact->Text/Multimedia'. I have some very lengthy PIN/calliing card strings I'd rather not enter 'verbally'.

Also - is there a 3rd party app that I could load on my WM6 phone that WOULD enable the phone book import? I've finally put all my contacts into outlook, and the outlook synch feature of the phone is awesome, so I have all my contacts loaded into the phone. I would love to get them loaded into the car!

SteveP... weirdo =p (though I also prefer the hot chick vs. the old guy talking to me)

Steerpike.. I have an 04 which to my knowledge does not allow phone book importing. WM6 shows my signal/battery, but like you I do not have an option to send via bluetooth.. I can beam or text it. You might want to get the JetWare bluetooth extension; www.jetwaremobile.com and see if that helps - it enables additional functionality for your bluetooth and has a 30 day trial.

How do you change it from the predefined ring tone to "you have an incoming call"

^^ I believe:

Push HFL Talk
Say Setup
Push again
Say System

She will ask you something like..
male or female
notification or not
ring tone or voice notification

Thanks. I'm not sure if I messed around with it, but for some reason I can't hear the ring at all when I'm getting a call.

yeah it will ring or the voice says you have an incoming call - but if you have notifications turned off you won't hear anything.
