My Bluetooth works OK, it's just that whenever I press the phone button on the steering wheel and recite a number, it almost always misunderstands the first digit. It does however understand it on the 2nd press and reciting. Do I need to replace the HFL unit?

You think any of us still have a functional HFL?

 

I would say no, the HFL is working properly. I say that because I have been playing in the artificial speech recognition space for a while now and the idiosyncrasy of how our HFLs recognize numbers, especially the first number or consecutive twos, is something I've run across in lots of software implementations.

BTW, my HFL still works and has the same issue.

 

Try speaking faster.
The HFL recognized numbers really well when I spoke quickly, but not when I spoke slowly and tried to enunciate!

Oh, and the HFL on my TL is no longer in use as it stopped finding my iPhone for pairing after I moved to iOS 11.0...
I should try to pair my wife's older iPhone to the HFL, although we're both on iOS 12.1 now.
However, the HFL mic works for voice command still.
