HFL Drain
HFL Drain
Hi all,
I have read a number of the posts on this, but have a specific question as I am not sure this is my issue or how to correctly diagnose the issue.
I am on my second Acura battery that died today at 3.5 years old (same as the first, thought that one did not ever completely die).
Although the car is 7 years old, I have only started using bluetooth in the past few weeks when I picked up an iphone.
Would the BT be draining the battery if this was the issue all the time or only once a phone is paired? Is there anyway to test to see if it's the HFL? I don't have any tech to test amps or draw.
The car was cranking extra long, but starting for a day or so, but now is completely dead. Sounds like the Optima Red Top is the best battery to replace it with.
Would Acura still have to replace a faulty HFL out of warranty if they never did so under the original TSB?
Appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!

The Acura battery reputedly doesn't last very long, and 3.5 years is not bad.
Switch to a new battery first-- Interstate, Red Top, Kirkland: they're all fine-- and see if you have any issues. If your new battery lasts longer than a year, the HFL is working fine and not locking open.
Acura doesn't have to replace the HFL out of warranty since it was under a TSB and not a recall.
