Help needed on removing head unit

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to install a 07 audio head unit onto my 05 tl w/ navi. I've saw some post a while back that shows how to remove my original head unit with minimal parts to remove. I can not find it now using the search. Can anyone out there please help me. I got the entire screen and the head unit from 07 tl (I think it's out of another type-S). I just need the instruction to un-mount my original head unit. HELP!!!!!

Gratefully.......

take the two silver strips out, then take that rear armrest asembly out. Then take out the shfter area compartments. Then take a flat blade screwdrive and pry up on the edge of the clock display. then you will see all 4 scres to the raido, unscrew and wiggle out.

I sure will. after I saw the steps I have to go through, I'm gonna take it into the my dealership and have them do it (Don't want to break any trims, and I think the glove box gotta come off too). My service advisor is pretty cool and willing to help me out on anything I bring to him (had my Acura Brembo Brake installed by him. works like a charm). He said that He'll charge ~$100 for the installation. If all goes as planned, I should have it done by the end of the week. And thanx again for all the help. I will keep everyone posted.

On display, the only differences are Connector A (14 pin) from 05 and Connector E from 07 (22 pin)

On Audio, the only differences are Connector C from 05 and Connector C from 07. The pin location are different 05 have a 26 pin and 07 have 40 pin. I have included all the schem. of the pins. also, the FM/AM antenna connectors are different between these 2 models.

I still have the plug from the cut wires from the 07 head unit. Anyone can help on fabricating the socket/wire adaptors will be gratefully appriciated.

There is at least some instructions in the The 3G Garage

You have to remove the trim and center console to get to the head unit. I have some instructions for the center console removal here: DIY: Backup Camera with Dom's TVandNav2Go PNP Install

Console instructions:
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=90964

But its pretty straightforward. Just follow csmeance instructions. You can use a butter knife wrapped in a thin rag to help pop out the silver trim with out scratching it. Start the trim at the console area and work your way up. I had the hardest time with the top part of the trim, but the rest was easy.

Thanx guys. Now I gotta see if I can find the socket that fit our car and hook up those wires to see if it works. Unless I can find someone to do it, otherwise, I'll have to do it myself. Do you know anyone that did this mod? Well, I'll keep everyone posted on the progress. Thanks whole bunch again

Try the local junkyards and snip off the harness. You could try the dealer, but they probably charge a lot or sell the whole harness only.

I happened to received the head unit with cut wires in the back that came with the connector. I just need to match up the wires on those connector to go into the connector of our model year head unit. If everything goes well, we can retain the full function of our car and added mp3 cd playing capability. That's where the pin schematic comes in handy. there is only one plug difference between the 2 different models of our head unit and one plug difference between the navi screen.

just look over the wiring, for the display connector E is the same, they just changed the harness color, and pins 18 and 19 need to be swapped

the audio harness you can get from a junkyard, and if the pins are the same size, pull them out of the stock connector, and put them in the new one, and the antenna (converter cable) can be bought from honda

Great info on the Antenna and display connector plug. if all else fail, I can still keep my original navi screen. the audio plug is the one that get's a little complicated (from 26 pins to 40 pins). I was hoping i can get my hands on a socket where i can mount the cut wires into and plug it into connector in our model year car (sort of like a professional made adaptor).

Is this the adapter that'll convert and connect the 04-06 antenna led to the 07 head unit?

Awesome... Thanx, I'll swing by a Honda store tomorrow... One down 2 to go... I've just check the only navigation plug that's different between the 04-06 and the 07. The wires are exactly the same no more, no less. It should be a easy match up. But, I still want to find a socket that I can fit the wires into and clip it into our original plug

As for the audio plug, It'll take more work, I think in 07 there are few more extra wires than 04-06. But, it's not that difficult if you look at the pin schematics I got from the dealer, just tedious wire matching.

Anyway, do you know where I can get sockets for head units in our car? If I can find them, I'm sure I can make a snap-and-go, plug-and-play, adapter to bridge our head units. Again, Thanks

Here is the picture of the 2 different plugs I got that goes into the 07 head unit.
The left one is the plug for the display and the right one is the plug for the head unit:

I wonder if any place sell sockets for the loose end that our original plug can plug into.

no need for that, take a small flathead screw driver, and pop the pins out of the stock connector, and put them in to the new connector, thats only if the pins are the same size

*edit*

i see why you are looking for them, but from what i know they are very expensive and hard to get. best bet it to find another radio/navi unit, and rip it off the back

Yep, that's why I want to find the socket for these wires. It'll make the installation much cleaner and easier. Thanx again for the tip on the antenna connector. I'm going to visit my Acura dealership again this afternoon. They ordered that part for me, it's $13.00. I'm gonna see if they can get me the socket parts I need But I doubt I can rip them off another radio/navi unit, since the whole unit is worth more than just 2 plastic sockets. Worst case senario, pop all the wires out of my original connector and pop the wires into the new connector (which I don't really want. Cuz, if I decided to switch back to the old system, it's gonna be..... more work).

Gosh, I know, they are "EXPANSIVE" for 2 pieces of trims. I saw the service at the dealership did it. They took out the navi/head unit out in <10 min.

Well fellas, I just got back from the Acura dealership. The adapter 08B01-SNA-100 is actually the reverse of what we needed. I wonder if they make the reverse of that adapter.

I got some update. The top electronic guy at Rick Case Acura is gonna look into the schematic to see if refitting and re-pin the adapter can work on our car this coming weekend (free of charge). My service advisor told me to call him back after this weekend. if everything goes well (I hope), I'll take the car in and have them slap everything on. I'm gonna have to get an oil change and some service done anyway plus they'll give ma a loaner for the time they are gonna work on my car. The service department at Rick Case Acura is awesome.

Thanx again rbf351 for the info on antenna. It's the input antenna wire for Honda Civic head unit. too bad it's in reverse order. that's the only thing that guy won't do is to cut the wire on the antenna and re-connect them. He told me that he did one on MDX and the FM/AM reception have lot of static. Do you know if there is an reverse adapter like 08B01-SNA-100 . because the input end of that adapter is the same as our car. we need to get the female socket for that end. again thanx
