Cool Help a n00b :D

hello all!

first off i just signed up for the boards, i have been a frequent reader though.
Before i get flamed for being a noob, just know that i have read through and searched for posts on my question. I just found alot of the advice a bit scattered and unclear...so looking for a little clarity from people who have more experience with their TL's than I.

Soooo, all im trying to do is add a simple subwoofer setup into my TL. Id like to keep the HU stock, and keep all the Navi Voice commands and such in tact. Most importantly Id like to keep the subwoofer control at the headunit. This is important to me.

Ive seen how people have been adding the Basslink, imo thats not an option. Ive also seen the adding of the JL to the stock location, but i dont think this is enough punch for what im looking for. I had a 12" Image Dynamics sub in my previous car (97teg ). Im looking for something similar to this setup. Im probably going to go with 2 10's or 1 12. Havent decided.

Im semi-proficent with installing systems, as ive done on other cars that had pretty intense set up's but the TL's 5.1 confuses me. I just need some info on how to wire from the Stock Sub to the Amp. I can route power/ground just fine. I am not familar with LOC's at all. If someone could help, that would be much appriciated. Any advice on an amplifier that has signal sensing would be nice also (i dont really want to mess with tapping a remote lead if i dont have too). Im looking to do this soon, as in sometime this week.

btw, keep up all the good work here guys. im very impressed.

I think the easiest way to do what you're describing is use a LOC off the stock sub's wires. You just need to get power to your amplifier. The system being 5.1 doesn't really make a difference from what you may be used to from stereo setups. In fact, in some ways, it might be easier since the sub's signal has already been low-passed and summed for you.

The LOC will allow you to take the speaker-level signal that's driving the stock sub and feed it into the "line in" on your amplifier.

I don't know of any signal-sensing amplifiers but they probably exist. You could tap a wire in the truck that's switched with the ignition, too.
