For the love of God I can't figure this install out. My car: 2008 TL 3.2 with navigation. My car has the option for XM but I am not subscribed to it nor do I care to. I am trying to install my new iPod Classic BEHIND the stock radio/navigation display and after every scenario possible (dips all down, cd changer dip up and rest down, etc) I cannot get this thing to work. I know everything is plugged in correctly because I have checked over and over again.

So with that being said I have heard people talking about if they have XM traffic then it needs to be installed at the rear of the car. Does this apply to me even if I am not subscribed to XM. I'm starting to think as I type this that it does, but i don't want to open a new can of worms in case I am wrong. The harness that is included with my gateway is the PGHHD1.

Any help would be greatly appreciated since my interior is in pieces right now.

 

i thought all 2007-08 TL's had to install the iSimple in the trunk and no you dont need to subscribe for it to work.

i have an 06' so i cant say for sure maybe someone will chime in with a better answer.

 

You are correct. It definitely installs in the trunk. I have the wrong harness. I ordered the correct one this morning (PGHHD2) this morning and it is on the way. Thank you for your help!

 

So your saying the ISHD571 was wrong for the 08 tl? Or you just can't install the ISHD571 in the trunk?

 

The 571 is correct for an 08 TL with navigation and XM capabilities, but you have to get the additional PGHHD2 harness to replace the PGHHD1 harness that comes with the 571. It will not work otherwise. Everything is installed in the trunk via the XM module.

 

not trying to thread jack but do i have to do the same thing with a 2004 tl with navi get a PGHHD2 harness to replace the PGHHD1 harness that comes with the 571?

 

anyone tried installing the unit in the trunk for a 06 tl with nav? I am thinking installing in the trunk is lot easier than in HU.

 

no 2004 does not have XM traffic. you do not need the PGHHD2. You need to go to ISimple site and check for your particular year. my 06 uses the 571 and the PGHHD1 harness.
