Headunit with aftermarket sub and amp

hi guys,

i have an alpine mrp m500 running and Hertz ebx300 12inch with the oem head unit. the technician used the same subcontrol of the original subwoofer to control the aftermarket one. (he desactivated the oem one) everything run great but i have a question. when i put the bass at level +5 is that normal that it gives more bass to the subwoofer or am i hallucinating?! even if the subwoofer is at level -6 and i put the bass level at +5 it looks like the subwoofer is playing louder. is this normal? beacause i dont want to kill the sub!

the bass controls the low end frequencies that make up Bass. The subwoofer control sets the amount of power going to the sub and how loud it's playing. If you increase one the sub will get louder, but with the bass setting the low end notes will be boosted for ALL speakers while with the subwoofer it'll just make it louder.

Did the installer use the subwoofer signal in the car or did he tap the rear speaker signals?

i think he used the subwoofer signal and bypassed it to the amp so i can use the headunit to control the sub.
