Question Have You Installed A Remote Radar Detector?

I am considering having a remote radar detector installed in my TL. Anyone have one that they would recommend? If so, where did they mount the sensor(s) as well as the display unit? Cost? I imagine having the display mounted in one of the two containers under my stereo (no NAV). The goal would be to flip the door down in the event I was pulled over, only I am not sure how noticeable it would be to me down there, when it went off. Thoughts? Thanks.

Please elaborate. Which detector? How effective is it and do you use the top or bottom container? Both? Whatever insight you have would be helpful. Thanks.

not sure why you would want to go stealth unless you live in DC or Virginia. those are the only states that make radar detectors illegal.

i'll post my setup later tonight. went to take a few shots with the digital camera and it was dead! I will charge it and post

sometimes if u get pulled over with a radar detector cops will take it as an insult and it will reduce ur chances of getting out of a ticket because having a radar detector gives off the impression that are a common speeder....

i took my car to the acura dealer since i didnt want to try and do this myself. paid $120.00 for installation.

they wired into my eletrical system so when the key is turned on it starts up.
as you can see in the 3rd pic they fished the wire through the vent. he said he had to pull the front console(pic 1) so he could place the controler in the bottom slot. you dont need this but i like the fact that i can press the mute since my radar detector is so sensitive i get false alams alot.

NFLblitze1 has it right. In the event I get pulled over, I would prefer the cop not know I am carrying a detector. I am looking for one with a remote sensor (i.e. wire) poking out near my front license plate with the only other visible element being the UI, that I hope to be able to drop the door on. Also, I don't want a detector sitting in my window so any low-life gets the urge to knock out my window... happened once some years ago. Thanks.

I have a K40 window mount radar hidden behind my rear view mirror. I had it hardwired to a constant power source so it goes on with the car and off with the cra.

Are you talking about the one that would go in the front grill? Completely hidden unit? If so, check the 3G Garage for the ZR3 installation I did. That is for a laser jammer, but the radar detector system would be installed virtually identical to that.

vp911, you got it! Thanks. Quite impressive. Not only the work you did to install, but to document for the rest of us. When I do this, your post will be my bible... of course I won't hold you liable for my screw-ups. Question, with the Valentibne, is the rear sensor of much use? Necessary?

Glad to be of assistance.

What I installed was a laser jammer - it will jam laser signals only. The valentine only detects radar and laser. So, in reality, yes both the front and rear sensors for the laser jammer are necessary.

In your situation, if you are doing only radar, I don't know if there are any hidden radar systems that have a rear sensor.
