Has anyone ever heard of this?
My 2004 TL HFL phonebook died a few weeks ago. Well, it didn't die, but the phonebook disappeared. I don't have any of my stored entries...
I try to add an entry to it and it says that the phonebook is full. I try to delete an entry in it and it says that the phonebook is empty.
I already called HFL customer service and they walked me through a system reset and it didn't work. What happens next? How intensive is the fix--i.e. how many days should I plan on my car being at the dealer???
Thanks in advance...

I've had my HFL unit replaced under warranty while they did other service. While the whole service took a couple of days, I think the swap could be done in under an hour, if the part is in stock.
Make an appointment and make sure they'll have the part in stock for you. Then you should be able to just wait while they do it. The whole thing is in the overhead console near the map lights.

Did you get your problem fixed? I'm having the same issue with the phonebook full when in fact it's not. And I also can't seem to delete existing paired phones. It says they were deleted but they are not.
My car is an '04 so maybe I just need to get the HFL replaced/updated.

for searching!Since you have an '04, you might as well replace the HFL per this thread: If you have a 2004 TL, Upgrade your HFL!
I have HFL problems. First symptom was the phonebook full and empty problem described by dbrogers0584. At that point the system could still receive calls and I could manually dial (by saying the phone #). However, today I tried to pair a new phone and the thing completely locked up during the pairing process. I had to revert to something I found in another thread, temporarily pulling fuse #7, to get things unstuck.
I'd love to get a new/upgraded HFL that understands me better (at least one that understands my voice better). I may pursue that with the dealing. However, in the short term is there someway to reset my HFL and start over or are the problems I'm having an indication of a more serious problem than what a reset will take care of?

There is nothing you can do on your own to fix the HFL.
Take it to the dealer and have them replace it.

I'm scheduled to have things checked out on Monday. CSR verified with his parts dept. that they had the correct HFL replacement part in stock in case that turns out to be the problem. My VIN is in the 29XXX range so per the thread referenced by datmrman above I suspect a new HFL may fix the issue at hand and hopefully make it understand my voice a little better. Thanks to all posters for all the great information.
Shemp,
I too have an 04 and had my HFL replaced due to poor performance. The dealer replaced it under warranty with the "06 upgraded version. NIGHT AND DAY is the difference!
When I tell the car to call phone numbers, I can recite the numbers like a normal person and it gets it right 90% of the time. It also sounds better and overall works much better. You should be very happy with the upgrade. I can even have my child talk from her backseat carseat and it gets the commands correct.
Enjoy the upgrade and props to Acura for hooking us up!
This feature still blows away my buddies with more "expensive" luxury cars!
