Hardwire Radar Detector?

Hi, I have Escort 9500Xi and i want to ask if there is a DIY guide for 3G TL on how to hardwire the power supply instead of running on traditional power cord using the lighter power supply. I searched but nothing really help thank.

I bought the hardwire kit from Escort at Bestbuy. What I did was strip the positive wire and wrap it around a fuse then routed the wire along the driver's a-pillar.

The cord has a fuse inline already so no need to buy one of those add-a-fuse things. Pretty self explanatory if you have any experience with electrical work.

I recommend buying an Invisicord or making your own out of phone cord. Search this forum for Invisicord and you will get a bunch of hits. There's a lot of information out there with lots of pictures too.

I'm major in electrical engineering. I can design and program (on computers LOL i know) but don't have any "hands-on" experience as to installation i think that is electrician. I think i will buy the kit on amazon or ebay and do it from there.

also So you stripped the positive side and wrapped it around what fuse? I want to cut the power off incase i need it to. where did u ground your ground? thank

I wrapped it around the fuse for power windows. So when I click the power window lock switch it'll shut it off.

I think I used the bolt for the hood latch as a ground.

this is where you can tap into to get power to your radar
https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...2&postcount=20

you can make your own wire tap. just use an old phone cord. im sure everyone have one laying around somewhere. you just need to use the red and green wire for power to your escort radar. i have the 8500 so it should be the same for your 9500.

YOU CAN GET HARD WIRE KITS FROM EBAY FOR LESS THAN $30..

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ESCORT-PASSP...ht_6488wt_1035

$13.49.... this one includes a mute button that is 4 feet long.

That's where I have my mute button placed for my valentine 1.

For $5 extra you can get LEDs for your passport/escort. This isn't possible for the valentine 1 cords

and I'd gladly pay twice the price just on looks alone. This is the one I got.

When you pull the fuse box cover located in the driver's kick panel. Look at the chart, I don't remember which one it is but it should say power windows.

I would pick a fuse that actually goes off when your engine is turned off- there's nothing more annoying than a radar detector blaring at a store when your car is turned off on and you're talking to somebody or simply listening to the radio. That's what will happen if you hook into the power windows circuit since it has a delay that lasts 2 min? or until the front doors are open.

I hooked into the Mirror dimmer circuit and that works well for me. With the invisicord you simply hook into the wire harness from map lights which works great if you mount your detector high. A high mounted detector works very nice and is not very noticeable when the car is parked. A high mounted detector also reduces needing a remote mute button too since it's right there within easy reach.

Fuse #32 is accessory. You can use an add-a-fuse for easy access.

...so are the HFL wires in the overhead console. I just tapped into those for both power and ground. Then, you just have to find a nice spot where you would like your mute button.

I don't know what features that little display provides for the escort besides mute and change modes, but for my valentine that $13.49 hardwire cord w/ built in mute button does everything just fine.

Now unless the amazon link you posted includes other features besides mute and mode change, I don't see a reason to spend $30 on something that is pretty much a telephone wire. I don't understand what you mean by

Are you speaking in general, or are you saying the eBay hard wire link I posted looks like shit and you rather pay $30 on something that "looks" better?

Where did you mount the escort display ?

Mine is mounted under the driver's dash next to my gain knob. I really don't need the mute button since the Escort has auto-mute but I couldn't get the direct wire locally so I spent a couple of bucks extra for the one with the display.
I could of made the wire myself but I've already spent a lot of money on the radar detector itself. Why cheap out on the power cord?

There's these which are a little bit cheaper than the blue display.
