In the blackmarket, http://www.acura-tl.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86996 . 3gen posters need to branch out to other parts of the forums.

We got the converters for $180 shipped as opposed to avelectronics which is $500.

I'm wondering if anyone has gotten theirs installed yet.

Gale, did you drive down to get yours installed there?

I was a part of the group buy. I got the instructions, but haven't got a DVD player yet. Will probably install it next weekend if goes as planned, and I'll take pictures step by step and post. If anyone else is successful, and can post with pic, that would be great.

Is this so you can watch movies while driving? If so, that sounds incredibly stupid. I guess it would be cool to be able to watch movies while parked some place, but then again, why? You can sit on your couch at home and do that. Why not read something or listen to you XM?

What could be so compelling (on DVD) that you need to see it once again, but this time in your car? I hope I'm missing something here, like there's some point to this I just don't understand.

there are a lot of reasons. what if you're on a trip? what if you're waiting for your girlfriend to finish shopping? there are plenty of reasons why i'd want to watch a dvd on my nav, although not driving. then again i thikn it's dumb to force drivers to have to park the car to do something with it, because that should be up to the jurisidiction of the driver (and they should'nt be an idiot).

you can also hook up things like computers for mp3 playback.... lots of possibilities. maybe you don't want it, but others might.

and yeah, i saw the alaska case thing.

I convinced alot of people to do this conversion by asking them one question "the question was what do you do in the car when you drive, 99% say listen to favorite cd's, so why not listen to your favorite cd's with video clips."

I didn't mean for this to become a moral thread regarding the pros and cons of Video.

I have many DVD live concerts, Woodstock, Zepplin, Eagles, Who,.... This will allow me to listen to the live concerts while driving.

If the driver is dumb enough to attempt driving and watching, then there is a problem. The installation instructions tell the user to connect up to the parking brake, requiring the car to be parked in order for video to play. While this can be bypassed, I hope people will use common sense and better judgement.

Back to topic, please, IF and WHEN anyone installs this please post pics, DIY's, and tips. If you get it professionally installed see if you can help out the installer or at least be in the garage and take some pics during the installation.

Hey, here's an idea. Burn those dvds onto CD so you can listen to them in your car. I'm finding this whole topic very scary. I just don't understand the reasoning behind all this. Are we really this bored, people? Do we really need constant stimulation? Even when our attention should be focused on the road?

Its ridiculous to say that people will only watch movies when the car is in park. Please! The average imbecile with money or credit cards to pay for this DVD thing will watch movies while he's driving. People, for the most part, are friggin' stupid. Anyone who wants to watch tv while driving is a moron. Just don't come on this thread and lie to yourselves and say you're just gonna watch while the car is in park. Most of you don't have the will power, good sense, or consideration to turn the movie off when you pull back into traffic AND YOU KNOW IT!

Come on, this isn't the place for it, I already said it once. I am asking for technical help.

Feel free to PM me directions of how to copy Video DVDs to Audio CDs, as this does sound interesting if possible. But please enough HIJACKING this thread.

Aftermarket Video industry is a billoions of dollars industry, they make a new flip out every 3 month, so you think you can chage peoples mind, in case of acura especially 2004 tl, you have that big screen in the front why not use it as a tv, who needs that big of a screen for navi.

my $0.02
I don't want my navi to play DVD's so that the driver (usually me) can watch, but the other 3 people that are in the car on long trips might enjoy it.

I'm not planning on stopping him from doing what he wants. I'm saying that its stupid to even consider modifying your navi to play movies. What's wrong with that?
