Got pulled over last night - blue leds!#$#!!

No... I wasn't speeding or driving recklessly. Just driving the family home from dinner, my radar goes off... lights start flashing and I pulled over. I quickly unplugged the radar and flipped down my sun visor.

The cop pulled me over for 3 violations....
The blue led's I put in for the license plate
The lightly smoked plastic cover I put over the license plate
and the dark tint on my front windows.(no tint allowed at all on front windows apparently)

All of this is illegal in Illinois. She was cool though, said she would only give me a warning since it was the holiday season.

Yeah if you were by yourself she probably would have given you all the tickets.

1. Blue LED's can be mistaken for police (in many states - northeast not as much as elsewhere). That's a well-known no-no.

2. ANY obstruction over a license plate is becoming a violation - this due to increased use of photo radar, etc. Georgia enacted a law earlier this year (June) that "no obstructions, including but not limited to parts of the body..." Yes, parts of your body. See here: http://www.legis.state.ga.us/legis/2...ltext/sb93.htm

3. And tint on front windows - do you mean front side or windshield? States are getting tougher on this...

No secret that Illinois law says you can't tint the front windows of the car (I don't mean the windshield). The front windows can not have any tint.

Also it's no secret about putting blue lights on your car.

I'm not a fan of colored lights on my cars (rice), but I've been driving with tinted windows and no front plates (also illegal in Illinois) for 15 years and I've never had a problem. I personally think if your car looks non-classy and riced out you will have problems.

Also any of those violations on your car is an excuse for a cop to pull you over and give you a sobriety test, so if you drink and drive at all you need to be extremely careful.

Be careful with your tint out there guys....

True story and the reason that I have yet to tint my TSX...

I had tint on my last few cars...20% on two of them and 35% on one. I would have a dr's excuse stating that I am 'photosensitive' even though I am not. That way if i got pulled over I would just show the blue and reds the excuse and leave.

Well, it always worked, however, one time I got pulled over in this small town and at the time my car was shiny black with 20% all around. You couldn't see in especially at night. So I see him follow me and set my cruise at 35mph. Two seconds later....lights on and pull over. He then gets out of the car pulls out his gun and orders me out of the vehicle!!! No joke! After he sees that I'm not running drugs or anything else he tells me that my windows were too dark to see in and he didn't know what he was dealing with. I told him that I wasn't speeding or breaking any rules. But a small town cop with nothing to do really didn't car.

So be careful and try to get a Dr's excuse. Or you may be taken down by the blue and reds!!

I'm just happy you didn't have to pay some retarded fine to the Policemen's asshole fund.

California is notorious for pulling people over, writing tickets, and forcing re-inspection so you really do remove tint. It's bullshit if you move from another state...

My license plate has "DR" in it so I haven't had a problem with 30% all around.

My RL's side and rear window shades make it darker when I'd like (i.e. parking) - it's the best of all worlds.

I currently have 20% on sides/back, and 50% on the windshield (all of it). So far, it hasn't been a big problem... not on the TL, and not on the other three cars I've had in the past 6 years with tint on the whole windshield... just don't go dark on it, and they'll probably never know. I did get pulled over for the tint in my integra I used to have, 5% on the rear and rear sides, and 13% on the front sides, and 40% (or something close) on the windshield... he pulled out his light meter to test the side windows... but didn't notice, nor had a way to test, the front windshield.

According to the tint laws, you live in a state that allows you to put tint on the side windows.

Kansas lets you put

Front side: 35%
Back side: 35%
Rear window: Any

So you rolling with tint, even darker may not cause any problem. When you live in a state that doesn't let you put ANY tint on the front sides, and you have tint you could have problems
