Ok its 830 and im done playing with my car. I had the install done, it took two guys a long time to do it. Apparently, it wasn't that simple to do.

I was watching independence day, and some tupac dvd, I was also playing sega genesis ALL IN MY CAR!!! hell yeah!

Analysis: Picture is pretty good for the DVD, it looks best when playing full screen dvds
Picture for TV is not that great, I got a few good channels when the car was not moving, then the screen went blue when i was moving...not much fun there
Sega Genesis (small handheld one you can buy at target) was fun to play. I was playing sonic the hedgehog 1 (of course I was parked)

The sound for all of these above are "ok" as its an FM modulator, which means there is no direct connect to the stereo (waiting for blitzsafe to create the connector) I have the AV electronics stuff currently.

The sound can get a little buzzy when your driving, you can hear a 'whine' in the sound, so i turned down the treble and it sounded a little better.

The CD player (i got the single one mounted in the glovebox) has a memory resume, so that's cool. We will try out some vcds later.

All in all, I feel it was worth it, hollar at me if you want advice on what to do

AND YES, ill post some dang pictures later...(I get Aspec black chrome rims soon...lemme throw those on and clean the car first)

Blitzsafe

Go to the Blitzsafe adapter portion of this thread to find out how you can direct connect your avelectronic TV tuner. I figured something out. Check it out.

ok, here's how AV electornics works

there is no direct sound connection from the DVD player to your stereo unit. They use an FM modulator, which means that the sound from the DVD player (which also contains the tv tuner) into an FM station

We have to tune the FM channel to 98.7 in order to get the sound.

The Blitzsafe connector is currently being developed by blitzsafe. That is a HARD wire connector that will connect wires from DVD player or converter into the Stereo Deck

Does that make sense?

Obviously its currently in 2 channel stereo, not 5.1 . Im not sure if blitzsafe can do 5,1...

Thatnks for the info. Points for you. Last question, there are still units where you can have 5.1 and dont need to use a fm modulator, correct?

Are theres still "units"? Im not sure what you mean.

Its my understand that blitzsafe will plug DIRECTLY into your headunit. I suspect its only 2 channel stereo...

I doubt its 5.1

You know that I have yet to hear true 5.1 in the car, I've played some DTS disks and some other 5.1 and it sounds like 4 channels, I dont hear much out of the center channel

And to be honest, you really dont need 5 channels in the car...4 is good and 2 is fine.

The reason being: People in the back seat of the car will be overexposed to the 'rear sounds' if you have ever played with your home theatre and turned off front and center channels and listented to the rear...it's difficult to understand what's really going on as voices are elliminated.

So in summary, 2 channel experience is fine for car, however four would be great!

(just my opinion)

Hey, I just got off the phone with Pham, (or is his name Sam) from AV electronics. He tells me that blitzsafe is working on the connector as I mentioned above.

He said its possible that it could be a 5.1 surround hookup, utilizing the optical out from the DVD player

That would be extremely good sound.

you can get rid of that whining noice by putting in a ground loop isolator.

Jerky i have another question. Well make it two, did you buy the one with S-Video or without S-video. Also say that you are playing a dvd on ur navi. Can you still listen to music thru XM or ur cassette player ?? Also to plug the DVD switcher, was that work all done in the boot, or did u have to yank out the front TV screen as well. Any wire cuttings? does it affect warranty? thanks in advance.

Intox

I bought the DVD player with SVideo
Problem: my installer did not run the svideo to the AC electronics converter

Question, does the AV Electronics system run S Video to the Nav? Somehow I doubt it....

So does it matter to get S Video for 2004 Tls? I dont know...Does anyone else know?

The picture with the RCA video looks "ok" the color is not as bright and vivid as I would want it...no complaints, im used to very high end video and audio. (using 19" flat lcd sony right now)

OF course i can listen to XM or radio or cd, no audio has changed, nav has not changed, I have lost nothing...

The Converter was installed in back, behind the panel near the dvd nav unit...check out the hondasauras site to see what they did, I had mine hidden however, not in front...

Im not sure if there was any wire cuttings to the nav...It's my understanding that there are some plugs ins, but im not sure. I didn't do the work, I hired an audio shop to do it.

(word to the wise, always get estimate in writing before doing anything)

Does this help?

Jerky thanks for your response. Although my questions seem a bit confusing, so let me re-phrase em. What i meant was that, can you view the dvd movies and tune to XM, AM, FM or listen to an audio cd or cassette thru the car unit simulatneaoulsy or at the same time while the dvd video is playing on the screen (like basically have the sound of XM or a different source and have movie playing on the screen). Also im sure s-video has nothing to do with displaying picture on the screen, its just an option in place of an RCA video input (i just wanted to know whether or not you bought the one with or without s-video).

The thing is that you really got me thinkin twice about getting the unit now that you say the picture is "ok". Is your screen in night mode or day mode thru the setup. Okay i guess i have left u with a handful of questions, or maybe i just need to get some sleep. Enjoy ur new dvd system. Also what did it cost you for the install of the switcher system, you can PM me if you like with that info. Thanks.

INTOX: can you view the dvd movies and tune to XM, AM, FM or listen to an audio cd or cassette thru the car unit simulatneaoulsy or at the same time while the dvd video is playing on the screen (like basically have the sound of XM or a different source and have movie playing on the screen).

JERKY: YES, this is possible, it's actually very cool to have a movie on, but listen to something else on (house music or something) Reason: There is a switch that will cut over the video to the converter, and overide the video input from GPS to the screen. I have that video switch mounted on left side of steering wheel near the mirror controls (looks really great and stock)

INTOX: Also im sure s-video has nothing to do with displaying picture on the screen, its just an option in place of an RCA video input (i just wanted to know whether or not you bought the one with or without s-video).

Jerky: yes, im playing the RCA video output right now, but my question still remains:
Does the Screen have inputs for Svideo? if so, I want to use them to improve the picture. Anyone know the answer? (obviously, i purchased the dvd player with s video)

INTOX: The thing is that you really got me thinkin twice about getting the unit now that you say the picture is "ok".

Jerky: I don't regret doing it all, all of my stock stuff is still intact (minus some big holes in bottom of glove box that can easily be replaced or covered up)

INTOX:Is your screen in night mode or day mode thru the setup.
JERKY: It can do BOTH!!! its cool, when you press the Min or Max the movie will also adjust. so during daytime the picture is very bright, and at night time (if you want) you can dim the screen by using stock controls on dashboard near steering wheel

INTOX Okay i guess i have left u with a handful of questions, or maybe i just need to get some sleep. Enjoy ur new dvd system.

JERKY: you're god dam right ill enjoy it! It's actually for my fiance who is my passenger during our roadtrips, in fact she helped fund the project...(such a sweety) That's why i had the player installed in glove box so it's easy for her to access and change her dvds or vcds (now if i can just get her to stop slammin the door life will be perfect...)

INTOX Also what did it cost you for the install of the switcher system, you can PM me if you like with that info. Thanks.

Jerky: there are numerous ways to find out AV electronics prices, mine was prob overpriced compared to a power buy. you can call them and get a direct quote. im sure I overpaid...
Install, I was quoted 200 dollars around the bay area for labor only. its not an easy job, and the installer did a good job, but wanted more money after working so long. (he did a good job however)
but apparently it wasn't simple for him. Im glad I didn't do it!!!

Thanks i got most of my answers. Even though i can tell you right off the bat, our screens dont have S-video input ... If that were the case, we really wouldnt need the switcher as we could just plug in the dvd output to the S-video input. Anyhow i'll let you guys posted if i do go ahead with the project i have in mind... Thanks again Jerky.

Yeah man, PM me anytime, if you want other details. It was an exepensive MOD, but it was worth it, despite the mid-fi quality I received.

THis is really first gen technology so I don't expect it to be perfect, but it will get better as time goes on

i had a whining problem when i installed a computer into my 93 legend back in the day to play mp3s. the whining noise comes from

The most likely cause of humming in audio equipment is due to a ground loop in your car's stereo system or the power wiring. It occurs when there is resistance in the electrical system. When you connect your computer to your stereo, a path is provided for electricity to flow from one unit to another as the electrical system tries to balance itself. This causes your speakers to hum.

You can buy ground loop isolators at your local radio shack or online

Here is one i found:

The screen will not have an S-video input. Basically if you have a DVD player with S-video output this will then goto the AV switcher with S-video input. Then it goes to your navi system throught its "Special Navigation Interface plug and play" as stated on their website. Then it goes to your screen. So, all the S-video does is make it a little better quality from DVD to the AV switcher. IMO it is not worth it. S-Video only makes your picture a little clearer as opposed to composite video (RCA). The Navi screen is actually capable of looking better than how you have it set up now, but that has to do with the AV Switcher not the DVD player. AV Electronics unit would need to have Component Video or VGA in order to have a crisper picture. Again remember this is ALL MY OPINION....

Ok, everyone, based upon the information presented here from Rosko

When you buy your converter and dvd player from AV electronics, you have the option of buying the S video capability.

Based upon what i've read so far, it is not needed, so likely you should save your money. If i hear anything else, ill be sure to post on this thread...

Someone correct me if I'm incorrect
