Few Questions (did search lol)

Hey guys and girls,

I am looking into the Acura TL, needing a bigger car... getting older (usual story). Although I want to keep some stereo mods available.... i want to simplify and go one sub one amp. My question is this, I sifted though the 5 pages on the audio section here and I see that people are able to use the factory navi along with the aftermarket installs. But on each of them that I saw it's either simple mp3 installs or a amp and sub install with the factory deck. Is it possible to integrate a aftermarket headunit and still utalize the factory navi? I didn't see anyone using a aftermarket deck. I sat in a non navi TL and it didn't look like it had all the options that I would like to have access to on a cd player. Obviously I would like to go aftermarket in that area so has anyone tried? Or would it all just be easier to get a non navi and put a navi headunit in... the one I have had my eye on is the Eclipse double din navi unit. Thanks for all the info and sorry I have a low post count hahahah.

It would be easier to get a TL without NAV and add an aftermarket radio/nav... look at this one and you can see how its done. The trim piece around the two units was custom but easy. I think if you have NAV, removing the stereo head unit would mness up the electronics somehow.. (but im not positive)

That's a picture of a TL with Navi. The buttons to control the Navi are all missing, as is the joystick.

Well that's something that I am more or less worried about. I like the TL's abilities, such as bluetooth and navi, but I would like to keep all of these options working. I figured that the bluetooth and audio parts have to be integrated, but the question was how well lol. I suppose i could live with a stock headunit, but I just dont know how well the audio quality would be. Which kind of worries me that I wont like it after I spend all this money...

I suppose if i did go non navi and put the Eclipse navi deck in I could run all my audio off of it... but what would get the bluetooth able to work... since from my understanding it broadcasts though the speakers???

Thanks for the help by the way

It doesn't look bad to me, but I bet that his sound is wonderful. Mainly because of the Eq (lower deck), seems to me he wanted more control ability then even I lol.

Well the thing is when you do stereo competing and such you tend to need a lot more adjustability then just what is offered on a stock car headunit. It's not so much for looks, I mean generally speaking stock decks usually have a better appeal to the car don't get me wrong. I do like the look of the stock TL headunit, but the adjustability just isn't there. With the way I tuned my set up i enjoy being able to control my bass output to my subs alone and make my own Eq curve. I really dont like a "bass, mid, and treble" adjustment... it just lacks on so many levels. I also like bass enhancements, BBE, which takes low volume levels and adds just the slightest amount of bass (unless turned up) then falls off as the volume increases.

Right now I have one other car that I am considering it doesn't come with bluetooth, so i can easily rip the stock deck and put a aftermarket double din navi unit that will look basically stock other then the little Eclipse logo printed on it. It can have stock navi but for a little more or less (which ever model I would pick) I could have a internal hard drive, memory stick inputs, as well as the ability to play and dvd or audio disk?

I ventured over to this site from Clubrsx.com been there for little over two years now, and I was hoping to possibly meet some nice down to earth people. In the audio parts of our forum we have some very nice people that will do their best, no questions or rude comments made. To be honest I don't care much for your statement over my car... This has absolutally nothing to do on what type of car this is. I would appreciate that kind of comment left to ones self.

So as I said... I am wanting to know for the fact I like the controls that I can have over the stereo on an aftermarket unit. I don't like the thought of running a stock deck with everything on the amps set just perfect and if something doesnt sound perfect I am screwed with it. The way I set my car was with very mild bass, but if I want it i push three buttons and turn it up if I wish.
