Question Factory navigation & audio system + MP3 CD player?

As you know, the new Accord's audio systems do not play MP3 CDs. Dealer charges $895 for their MP3 player add on.

I was wondering if any of you have made it so your factory 6 disc changer system will play MP3 CDs. If so, what did you add & how much was it?

Looks like a real headache to rip apart the dash & try installing an aftermarket head unit w/the navigation there.

Not sure what your asking here, but you can't make a 6 disc changer read what it can't. The TL system doesn't play MP3 files. You can burn them onto a CD in regular CD format, and listen to them that way. That gives you around 70 minutes of music on a CD. There is another choice, to burn to a DVD which can hold 4.7 gig or 9 gig for dual layer, but that requires DVD-A burning software that is expensive, and a DVD burner. Again, they wouldn't be Mp3 files anymore though.

My question is pretty clear. I know I can burn a regular audio CD & play that.

I need to know what I need to make the bitch play MP3 CDs

What you'll need is a HU that supports MP3 format. The ELS (Panasonic) will not read MP3 files. Other options to consider, Ipod or
DMP3A Player.

So I could just add my Pioneer head unit under the stock crap?

the bitch won't play mp3's, that's a fact. installing your pioneer HU under the stock crap would look hideous. just get an mp3 player and play it via cassette deck.

Loco, with other options available, why the obsession with playing MP3 discs in the car?

I wasn't aware that Acura dealers were offering an MP3 player add on for the TL. Perhaps it's just the dealer that you went to that is offering an aftermarket solution for MP3 player add ons.

Can you provide more information as to what the dealer's MP3 player add on consists of? From your posts it sounds like it somehow converts your 6 disk changer into an MP3 disk player. Maybe that's where the confusion is coming from.

Pull the "stock crap" as you say OUT and put an aftermarket Unit that would play MP3's...

BTW what gave you the idea that you can just make any CD-player (that does not play MP3's) to do some magical shit and start playing mp3's ?

lol the responses here alone would deter him from getting a TL.

don't think of us as such assholes, though. when you really need help, we'll be here. (i.e. if you need someone to post certain solutions, parts of the service manual, etc.)

Because I have a bazxillion MP3s & I have them on CDs in my visor holders in my current car. Obviously, you can't fit many normal audio files onto a CD. I need the ability to play MP3s.

Well this add on was at the Honda dealer for the Accord so I just assumed it would be similar. I believe the add on they have mounts under the stock unit.

Nice attitude. No, I don't have my answer. Read: I need to play MP3 CDs NOT regular audio CDs!

I had the same situation - unfortunately no one here has done what you are asking about because (a) it would be very expensive for what would amount for the most part to a downgrade and (b) for the most part we prefer the "stock crap" to the aftermarket alternatives because of its DVD-A capabilities, integration with the rest of the car, and its fit to the interior.

What I did was start burning DVD-Audios instead. 99 songs / 7.5 hours or so and full CD quality on each. Less if burning surround.

This whole DVDA thing is new to me so let me ask, can I just burn audio files onto a DVDR disc & play them in the TL? Do I need to convert the files to another format or do I just burn the MP3 files to the CD?

Can I just buy a DVD burner for my PC or do I need a special DVDA burner?

I didn't mean the stock system was literally crap when I typed that. That's just how I talk sometimes. I really like the stock stereo system in the TL.

Okay, now I'm on the same page as you, I think. Check out the sixth item down on this page. If it is, it's definitely NOT available for the TL. Check out the price, too. Looks like the Honda dealer was asking for $500 for installation for a job that an experienced tech can do in less than an hour.

Maybe the best thing to do is to go to a good car audio shop and explain what you would like, maybe a trunk-mounted mp3/wma/cd changer mounted in the trunk and integrated into the TL audio system. I'm betting they could come up with a solution for less than $895.

When burning a DVD-A disc full of songs, they're not MP3 format. They need to be uncompressed. I think they need to be WAV files, but I've not done it myself yet. Do a search for this topic and you'll find good step-by-step instructions. In fact, I need to do this myself one of these days as I have the burner and Wavelab here at work.

they'll most likely have to be in CDA formats... not WAV.

Ah yes. If I was thinking straight, I would've known they could be in any of the uncompressed PCM formats (WAV, AIF, etc.) as WaveLab will convert them into whatever it needs to burn the DVD-A.

Wavelab will do a direct conversion from MP3. Discwelder requires you to convert the MP3s to .WAV (or rip .WAV from a CD) and just add the .WAV files.

Do a search on Discwelder in this forum and you will find all kinds of information on burning your own DVD-A's. Any DVD burner will make them - best compatibility with the TL player has been using DVD-R's (not DVD+R's).
