Factory Alarm

What do we know about the stock factory alarm that comes with the TL?
Like Mfg., model, features, where is unit located, pinout, etc., etc.
Want to see if we can add at least a "shock sensor" to the stock factory alarm, so we don't need/have to upgrade if someone wants MORE security.

I was hoping for that feature "shock sensor" to already exist, just Acura never implemented it. If that is the case, we can just add it in. Meaning any window breaking/someone bumping your car/towing attempts/etc. will set it off.

If not, still possible to connect a shock sensor in parallel to either the door/hood/trunk circuits. Just need to figure out the wiring & where the unit is located in the car.

OK, unit does NOT have glass breakage/motion detector features.

But it is still possible. To trigger the alarm, all is needed is a "motion switch" that supplies "GND" when activated/triggered. The best/easiest point to connect is at the hood switch I think. Only thing not sure how long the alarm unit expects to see the "GND" pulse before the alarm is set off.

all you need to do is tie the shock sensor into the door switch, then make sure the power to the shock sensor is only active when the ignition is turned off

YES! Would be ideal if the alarm unit have such a output for accessories when armed, but no such luck. Any ideas where I can tap this source from.....

Ideally you don't want to apply +12V to the shock sensor when your car is running, cause it'll signal to the alarm system (also to your car's MID, NOT GOOD) that the door/hood/trunk is OPEN. So ideal scenario is to only apply +12V when ignition is turned OFF.....like rbf351 suggested.

So a simple circuit with a relay should work:
a) When ignition ON, relay "opens"...NO +12V to sensor.
b) When ignition OFF, relay "closes"....+12V to sensor.

Or could provide "GND" instead of +12V to activate the relay, depending on how you connect the relay.

One last word, connect this to the hood/trunk pin & use relay.
Do NOT connect to the doors & without relay, otherwise everytime the shock sensor trips, the car will think the door is open & dome light will come ON.

no matter where you connect it , you need to use a relay. besides the door light issue, you'll have a notification on the mid for the trunk. not really sure what type of "error" you would get for the hood.

any of the spots work, just alot more room to do it under the dash where all wiring is available.

Just picked up a shock sensor & glass break sensor. Want to connect them in parallel to the hood switch. Cause found hood switch does NOT cause any messeage on the MID, even with hood open, engine on & transmission in drive...so ideal circuit to add these sensors.

1) to get access to hood switch takes TOOOO much effort (have to remove front bumper to get access to cover that covers the hood switch). Where is there another spot under the hood, prefer under the dash...I can tap the hood switch circuit easily? this is for 07 TL.

2) because these sensors are "powered", you'll need to add diode to each circuit to prevent reverse current in damaging factory's alarm hood input circuit.

3) also will replace the security led on the door panel with a "super bright blue" led (factory's is way to dim).

Here is the shock & glass break sensor.

I connected them in parallel to the hood pin. Lightly slapping the car will trigger the alarm & tapping a key on the glass will also trigger the alarm.

To get at the hood pin, remove the bulkhead cover & reach in (must have small hands, otherwise you'll have to remove the front bumper ) to disconnect the hood pin connector & tap to pin #2.

bertom,

I hide the microphone behind the center air vent for the glass break sensor.
microphone is directional, where it's at will pick up me tapping the glass from the outside, will trigger the alarm.

Give me a link if you don't mind...I searched, but found nothing usefull.
I created this thread & seemed I was talking to myself & no one was interested, so I gave up in keeping this thread up...till bertom pm'ed me.

Yes, both sensors are tunable.
