Easy iPad Mini/Tablet Install with USAspec/iSimple & Bluetooth Adapter Non-Nav
Here is a very easy way to install an iPad mini or other Bluetooth tablet without any real modification. I installed a USAspec (iSimple will work too) with a iSkin Bluetooth adapter connected to it (I don't recommend this Bluetooth adapter as you have to manually connect to it every time, get one that auto connects). I hid the whole unit behind the glove box and the panel behind it (as if you were doing a cabin filter replacement). Then I used 3M Velcro strips to adhere the iPad on top of the non-nav display. Connect the iPad to the bluetooth adapter and tether the iPad to your phone (unless you have a LTE iPad). Bam music. Radio controls (next track) don't work though. Also I couldn't get the Bluetooth adapter working correctly without installing both the 30pin cable to it and the aux cable. The 30pin cable supplies power to the unit while the aux cable transmits the sound signal. If you are using another Bluetooth adapter that's using say USB to charge it you can unplug your power outlet (in the lower flip out compartment) and move it so the wire cant be seen (or maybe just hide the whole unit in that lower compartment and have the aux cable going to it).
To charge the iPad I took out my power outlet door (the little spring cover that says "power outlet" on it) and installed a griffin dual USB charger (the lower compartment wont close with the power outlet door all the way open, although I'm not sure if it would close if you were to install the griffin dual USB charger as it is very small). Then plug in a lightning cable and you can charge your iPad.

Here are pics of the iPad floating above the non-nav display.
The iPad stays on good but be cautions when using the home button (if you press too hard the iPad will come off as only the middle sections of the iPad are connected with Velcro). You might be able to stack Velcro or double sided sticky tape on the sides so there is no gap.

I agree with not leaving it in the car, 2 reasons.
1, Over heating. My iPod does this and I can't use it till it cools off.
2, thieves. Enough said. Last thing you want to come out to is a car with a shattered window and your $330 (or more) iPad gone.
Neat idea though.

you dont have to press the home button on an ipad. you can do the 5 finger pinch gesture to quickly and easily get back to the home screen. might help with your velcro problem.
