Dvd Audio Discs

I am frustrated with the DVD Audio Format.

I bought a 2004 TL and it was the first car I have ever owned where I felt I DID NOT have to replace the audio system. I am a audio file who really loves great sound and felt the factory system in the TL was the best factory system I have heard.

When my lease was up on my 2004, I went out and got a 2007 TL S-Type. I had bought about 10 of the expensive DVD AUDIO discs to enjoy hearing surround sound sound in my 2004 TL.

I have heard rumors now that the DVD AUDIO format is dead? I have been on line looking for new releases, but there is nothing new coming out?

This makes me feel that my new 2007 S-Type audio system is already discontinued? It still sounds good with my old discs, but I crave new music all the time.

Any suggestions?

There are threads with lists of (online) stores that sell DVD-Audio disks. Please check out the 3G TL Audio & Electronics FAQ.

I did not buy blank ones, I don't think they make blank ones.
I bought DVD Audio discs with content recorded on them!
They were available on line, But have not seen any new releases.

DVD Audio is a format thing and has nothing to do with the actual blanks. I recorded my own DVD audio discs on 4.7gb DVD-R discs and they read fine on the TL. I took advantage of the extra space and burned all of my music in standard stereo (instead of 5.1) since that's how they were recorded. I was able to squeeze about 99 tracks per disc.

Locally, you might get lucky and find a FEW at Best Buy. They are now mixed in with the regular CDs. Other than that, nowhere.

On-line, try:
The well is pretty dry right now, but hopefully Warner will deliver on it's promise to market DVD-As via the Because Sound Matters site. So far they only have vinyl.

Looks like DVD-A discs have finally shown up on the BSM site. Let's hope they keep going.

Also, looking forward to Porcupine Tree's Fear of a Blank Planet DVD-A on Sept 25.

Have a look at Amazon. They have a good number of DVD-A but as you said, the well is pretty dry... no new stuff.

The same can be said about SACD and DTS format. The rest of the world, particularly in the U.S., cares only about MP3 and ipod formatted music. We audiophiles not only have to pay a more for the kind of music we love, but also to face the possibility of a dying format, because there isn't a big demand for it, and the record companies do not want to waste money in the technology.

In asia, many music videos, including live concerts, are recorded in DTS format. The audio portion of these can be ripped, recorded and played on our TL's system.
