Do Not Get V710, It's A Scam!

So far, all my investigation has proven this to be true. bluetooth features are crippled on purpose. The inablity to run java apps is on purpose. And many features are disabled on purpose.

Worst yet, Verizon customers are being screwed with big time. There's a class action suit in California against Verizon. I'm tempted to start one in Canada because ours are even worse!

More info: http://www.nuclearelephant.com/papers/v710info.html

I've read up on complaints against other phones and such. But I've never seen the amount of complaints against this paticular phone *EVER* !!!! This is *THE* most controversial cell phone on the market. And it's all because of the hype and the let down that followed.

There's so much complaining going on that many people are working to hack the phone to enable the features that they essentially paid for. Trouble is, Verizon is working even harder to remove features.

I've only had it for 2 days and it's going right back from where it came! I'm lucky I still have the 30 day return policy.

If you're considering getting a V710.... DON'T! For your own sake, don't buy one! Carriers (Telus in Canada and Verizon in the U.S.) have crippled this thing so much you're wasting your money! They're cheating you into using thei pay services instead (airtime).

so DON'T buy a V710.

Do a google search and you'll see nothing but bad comments on the V710.

To get you started:

Nuclear elephant: http://www.nuclearelephant.com/papers/v710info.html
iNetTron: http://www.inetron.com/

^ please visit the sites above and see just how bad this V710 scam is before replying "I love my V710".

PS: I'm not anti-motorola, anti-telus or anti-verizon. I'm not paid by a competitor, hell I'm not even in the industry. I'm just a consumer like you who feels they got cheated by buying a V710.

I suggest you read the links first. Here's one important part from Nuclear elephant:

9/11/2004: Verizon to Extend DRM Plans?
I received this letter from an individual who wished to remain anonymous. I cannot vouch for its reliability (I have only one source who has proven to be inside Motorola, and they're not talking much right now). It sounds pretty right-on to me, however, and the fact that they knew about CPRM suggests they know what they're talking about:

First you are making real waves at Verizon. Even if there is never a hack you
are changing what they are going to do.

Let me clarify something you are missing... when they say "security" it is not
Bluetooth as you assumed in the conversation, they are worried about. The
reason they turned off BT is to force people to use airtime. Security is about
content protection and air time use.

There is a security solution being developed at V for all phones with removable
cards. They have a term - revenue leak - meaning by allowing a phone to be
interoperable to other CE devices through a removable memory card or
technology other than air wave transmission it causes them to lose airtime to
other ways a consumer can interact. They want a closed environment believeing
that they can provide the user everything the user wants within their V world -
sound like AOL?. A sw solution would be placed on all handsets and control the
users rights by allowing only certain files to be viewed/used by the handset
(encrypting by the handset), the ones they obtain within the network. You could
add files to the memory cards outside of the handset environment but the
handset would not see the files nor be able to use. Likewise content you
purchase through V network may be stored on the memory card but it will be
encrypted and you will not be able to even see the file on another device.
A security solution is actually necessary so that paid for content cannot be
moved to cards and then set free.

I heard this and wondered if these people actually live outside Verizon's
buildings.

There was an email from the leader of engineering team in V that said Marketing
was caught by surprise and they are about to change their requirements which
will mean we must change our CPRM scheme. They are afraid of this kind of
reaction or even worse if we rolled out this super restrictive policy

Class Action Against Verizon for the Motorola v710 Cell Phone

This class action was filed on behalf of all those who allege to have been wrongfully and unfairly deceived by Verizon Wireless in their advertisement and sale of the v710 cellular phone as manufactured by Motorola, Inc. with the representation that it had Bluetooth®® capabilities, but had no intention of selling, and did not sell, the phone with these Bluetooth®® capabilities, to the detriment of its customers.

New Information on Class Action Arbitration

Please be advised that in response to your inquiries, we filed a demand for a national arbitration with Verizon Wireless regarding the Bluetooth issues.

To view a PDF copy of the Arbitration agreement, please click here.

Details of the Class Action Lawsuit

The suit includes allegations of:

Unfair Competition;
Untrue and Misleading Advertising;
Violations of the Consumer Legal Remedies Act; and
Fraud and Deceit.

The suit asks for permanent injunctive relief, cy pres recovery, compensatory and consequential damages, exemplary damages, restitution for loss of benefits earned by Plaintiff(s), restitution and disgorgement of money received by Defendants as a result of their wrongful conduct and attorney's fees.

The lawsuit reflects the complaints of countless individuals across the United States who purchased the v710 cell phone from Verizon for its Bluetooth®® capabilities, and was filed on December 30, 2004.

If you are interested in providing us with an account of your experiences with Verizon and the Motorola v710 cell phone, please complete the questionnaire provided below. i got my v710 a few weeks ago and its on verizons network. I had the v265 and v60 in the past.

I know my way around software and hacks. I had the cables from the v60 and the software so getting the BT and filetransfer to work isnt that hard for me.

I bought it for the HANDSFREE link for ACURA, the camera and others are toys for me. Frankly i wouldnt miss them at all. But I bought a 256 transflash card just to have , its an ok camera. Anyone who isnt aware that phones are custom made for individual providers, has not read about 5 years of info on the web. (phonescoop.com)

example in the past ATT put out a motorola v60 that was a piece of you know what. With components that were not as good as the v60i on verizons network.

thats what the return policy is for i guess

My v710 went back today and replaced it with a v635 (different carrier), it's GSM.

Oh my... what a difference! And now because java is actually in the firmware, no need to flash the telus firmware, and because I've now got BT OBEX push, loading java games/apps is easy as pie. The HFL is also better. Camera is better. And I got the contacts/calendar from outlook transfered into it in a jiffy (BT OBEX file transfer).

Man I'm loving the v635, so much better because it's less of a headache.

V710 is a phone!

Zeuser,
Glad you are happy with your new phone and service provider. I switched from Cingular GSM with a Sony Ericsson T610/616 phone and now have Verizon. The reason I did this was because Cingular service has gone downhill in my area and I would not recieve calls or could not make calls. Some of us actually use the phone to make calls and recieve them, not to transfer data.
I don't play games
I don't use the camera
I don't transfer files
I don't listen to MP3
I don't text etc.
The handsfree link works very well and I no longer have the crackling sound of the Sony phone. I like the menus and the phone has been working well. It always connects with my car (so did the Sony). I purchased it knowing full well what Verizon has done. I just think that some of the old timers, I am 38, might like to know that the phone works well for the purpose of making and recieving calls. Not looking to get flamed!

I mostly use the phone to make calls too.

The point I'm getting at is that you're paying extra for the v710 and you end up not getting what you paid for.

The important part of the file transfer is the contacts and calendar. As a business professional I like to be able to keep that info in-synch between my computer and cell phone. That's very important to me as I don't want to drive/walk around with both a pocket PC or Palm and a cell phone. I could've went with a treo but that's a lot more money and overkill since the v635 already does contacts and calendar bluetooth synching.

And the v635 sounds much better through the HFL, which is the important part we're all looking for here as TL owners. Since I've had bot hthe v710 and v635 and successfully paired them with my TL I can honestly say the v635 is better from my first had experience.

Honestly, I couldn't care less about the camera and java games. But for those who do care, you'll prefer the v635 over the v710.

Hi Zeuser, I just bot a WDP TL three weeks ago. Traded a tsx on it and love it. My wife got me a motorola v710 and I have a question maybe you could anwser. I paired it fine but every time I get in to the car I have to go to option 10 under connectivity in the phone to link it to the car than it works fine. Is there a setting in the phone so everytime I get into the car it will sence the phone and pair itself or do I have to do it manually? Also do you ever dial a stored name and it says dialing and drops the call. Sometimes it takes three attemps to call. Any advice would be appreaciated. Thanks

crazytsx, sorry to say it doesn't auto pair when you get into the car and will only happen if the BT is on. Leaving the BT on, will also drain the battery a lot quicker than normal. However, you can make a shortcut without going through the entire menu. This was posted a while back (poster unk.)

1. Menu
2. 7 - Setup
3. * - Connection
4. 1 - Bluetooth Link
5. Setup (Select)
6. Power (Change)
7. Scroll down to "Off"
8. Hold then Menu button down and create a shortcut...I used "1"

Follow the same steps as above (1 through 6) and then:

7. Scroll down to "On"
8 Hold the Menu button down and create a shortcut...I used "2"

Henceforth, "OK" + 1 turns Bluetooth off in a single step
"OK" + 2 turns Bluetooth on in a single step.

Zeuser,
Where did you get the V635 and how much was it? I was reading about it on phone scoop and thought it would be a nice upgrade from a v600 that my wife has.

I was thinking of switching from AT&T and going with Verizon and getting a V710 but since hearing all this bluetooth crap i am considering the V635 and migrating over to Cingular.

Thanks for the info.
