dam XM - dropped MTV & VH1

xm really are fools

************************************************** ***********
Q. Why have you decided to drop the MTV and VH1 audio channels from your channel lineup that have been there since your launch?
A. They’ve been great partners, but this represents a natural evolution on our business where we are becoming less dependent on third party brands. In fact, our music brands are becoming now some of the most powerful music brands in America.

[Channels like] 20 on 20, Highway 16, the City, Sweet 62, Watercolors and our decades channels, because of the sheer size of our audience base, are some of the most powerful and biggest radio outlets in the U.S. today.

Our content strategy is to really create our own [music] brands . . . which is why the decision was [made] not to renew with MTV or VH1.

I noticed that to, that got rid of any drive I had to renew the subscription.

XM Music channels don't have commercials.... other channels, like say the Comedy Central channel will have commercials

Any idea if they are replacing them with anything else? They just keep dropping channels and dont seem to be adding any news ones like when they dropped the Metal channel. I actually listened to VH1 occasionally. I just hate when I pay for so many channels as their marketing ploys tell you and then they start dropping one by one or making them online-only and never add anything to replace it.

I too was disgusted and probably will not renew when my annual is up. Both VH1 and MTV had programming I enjoyed such as the Live Storytellers on VH1. If XM is truly trying to "stand alone" and be apart from any other partners such as VH1 and MTV, then they might be standing alone without many subscribers. What happens when they choose to drop CNN, FoxNews, ESPN, etc...? Aren't those "third party brands"?
