Confused about system upgrade? 5 channel issues...

I've been researching the forum and reading a lot of the car audio threads posted in the FAQ thread. I'm still a little confused about how to upgrade my sound system while retaining the 5 channels already in place. I'd like to build an all JL Audio system and I'm not seeing a good option for a 5 channel amp with them. I plan on using one amp for the full range speakers and one for the sub. I've been looking at the JL XD600/6 6 channel amp, maybe that will do the trick. I'd just end up wasting a channel.

Another option might be 3 amps, a four channel and a 2 channel, along with the sub amp. I'd still end up wasting a channel.

How do I power the center channel as equally as the door components and deck speakers, what is the cleanest and easiest way?

Thanks for the input...

To power the center channel you should consider a DSP (Digital Signal Processor) that has an output for a center channel. A lot of guys using CARPC's wire for 5.1 audio.. Its not hard or expensive.. you can usually get better imaging than factory.

I understand DSPs to be signal only, where would the power come from?

5 channel is good for home theater, and 2 channel is good for audio, when your ready to commit to audio only, and what I mean by that is giving up on keeping the existing system the same. Then you'll find loads of assistance here & @ DIYMA.com, 2 channel front is the only way to go............

Totally ready for it. The only reason I want the center is mainly for the HFL sound. If there is a way I can ditch it I will. I've never been a fan of the DVD-A and 5.1 music out there. I much prefer the correct stereo mix.

Any ideas how to maintain the center for HFL and mix the output from the stock HU to a 2 channel amp(s)?

yeah, this will work fine.

If you want to keep the 5.1 which does have some cool factor, especially if you replace the h/u w/ something that plays DVD-Video (i.e. Kenwood DNX9960) w/ 5.1 pre-outs. Going that route I (personally) would do the XD600/6 bridged to 3 channels on L/C/R then either a second XD600/6 on rears and 2 subs or an XD400/4 on rears and 1 sub.

Or you could do what I plan on doing...at some point...in the distant future...which is 2 HD900/5s and run 150x3 to L/C/R, 100x2 for rear L/R and 500x2 for 2 subs.

I would love to get some details of your setup. I'm curious how a 5.1 channel output from the head unit can be downmixed to 2ch and keep all of the signal.

I don't know much about the stock Navi head.

Its not a 5.1 system, Its a 2 channel car stereo first and foremost, And not until you put a DVD-A with 5.1 mixing on it. then its 5.1,
