Center Console Lights
Center Console Lights
I am not entirely sure what to call these lights. Its the buttons that surround the nav screen. I have been noticing that mine are going up like crazy all of the sudden. I mean the Mode, Cancel, Audio, A/C (I think Im not in the car right now) and one other one are now out and it is driving me crazy because it looks like crud. Can we replace these or and I up a creek since it is a part of the nav unit? $1 leds sure beat buying a new unit.
Thanks guys.
Thanks guys.
No disrespect, but the above post...half of your response was unnecessary. He's only asking about replacements, not upgrading or doing crazy electrical work. No reason for such an erratic response.
OP, regarding your question:
I have had this happen plenty of times. Those are just standard interior LED lights, and they are painfully simple to replace. Dirt cheap as well.

On this diagram (for a 2004 TL, like mine), it's parts 5, 6, 7, 8 and 11. When you are on any website looking at parts diagrams, this is the "Center Console- Navi" section, and from there you can compare prices and get the right part numbers.
Each of these bulbs are similar, but you want to make sure you get the ones that actually fit for the button LEDs you're trying to replace. The resistances and voltages do differ depending on the location of the LED light, so you can't just get a bunch of 8s (for example) and expect them to worry in any position, for example.
Getting behind the console is the only tricky part- if you want to do it right, you will have to remove the center console, CD deck, etc. Once you've got the navi unit in your hands, all you need is a flathead screwdriver, turn it a quarter turn and voila! It comes right out. Just take the new LED, and screw it in half a turn and you're done. There are great DIYs here on the forum (in the 3G garage) with instructions on how to access behind the navi unit.
This is the way way you replace any of these interior cabin backlight LEDs as well. I've done it for my overhead buttons ( sunroof, interior light setting), trunk and mirror switches (near your left kneecap), seat heater switches, and all of the LEDs surrounding my navi. Which is to say, if I can do it without screwing it up, anyone can.
Good luck!

They are filament wound bulbs, the only LEDs in the entire center console are positioned behind the radio knobs.
Thank-you for taking the time to post this, very helpful.
I had to restrain myself from nestling in to an e-bashing, but that statement is absolutely incorrect.
On this diagram (for a 2004 TL, like mine),
The resistances and voltages do differ depending on the location of the LED light
if I can do it without screwing it up, anyone can.
Again, the voltages and resistances comment was from me going over the parts diagrams and descriptions. The bulbs all *look* identical, yes, but whenever I order replacement interior bulbs for the center console I make sure to get the one designated for that space instead of just going off of appearances. It would be just my luck that getting 20 of the same part number wouldn't be interchangeable like I imagine they would be.
But again, that's just me being paranoid

Again, thanks for the correction!
This is an old thread but some good information if your having this problem. Hopefully this can help some people out.
I want to replace all of the lights at one time but I want to use neo wedge LEDS.
Does anyone know about these and what I need to look for?
https://www.superbrightleds.com/prod...gauge/220,221/
Would these work or not? Also if they do work do I need to buy read (Type-s) or do I buy white or clear and they will appear red?

Just go to any Acura parts website and look these up by parts number. You should be able to pull up a parts diagram as you're looking through their parts catalog, and you just want to order the ones that correspond to the switches you're needing to replace.
This is a good post because I just picked up at 07 Type S with 127K miles on it and the center console/steering wheel lights are looking dull. The audio button and the driver side heated seats button doesnt even light up anymore!!!
If you guys already done this changes how was it the DIY? was it pretty simple once you got it going or any trouble after replacing it?? Thanks

Yeah it was pretty simple. Time consuming more than anything. Make sure all your leds light up before you put everything back together as they are pole sensitive. Also make sure all or tight, i have one that flickers and it drives me nuts but so much work for a little fix.
Its real simple to install the T5 led lights I have an 06,tl just the part getting behind is a pain but I got a teal color led in mine and they look amazing I can show u a pic ? But be real gentle putting the LEDs in cuz they need to be turned a certain way and always make sure ur power is off I made a mistake and left them in to see if they were all working n touched the back of the leds light n popped up a fuse lucky it was only a fuse cuz I lost all my lights inside and out ! So be careful
