Cons:
Lots of planning and testing outside the car for easy installation/execution
Lots of fabrication to make it look good
Something else to take up space in your trunk
Lots of tweaking to get things right
More wiring to deal with
integration issues with existing sound system
This is not for the faint of heart!

I did a sweet install on a carpc. I installed a dvd burner and memory card reader in the top compartment (just below the audio head unit) and I even replaced the stock screen with a highres screen. Very clean and looks stock! I did this about 2 years ago and have truly used it just a handful of times. It was a fun and challenging project. In theory this was an awesome idea but in reality it poses no practical use. Also, in order to retain the stock nav and audio screens you have to use a video converter- the image you get from this is awful.

Yea, no practical use.... aside from

Unlimited music and video storage (add a terabyte hard drive in you want)
Dual zone movie playback (rear seat monitors)
Bluetooth phone (and audio)
Email access
Internet access for weather, traffic, facebook, youtube, etc, etc ,etc
back up cameras
in car cameras
fully future proof (equipment and software)
Engine monitoring
TPMS
Back up sensors
Local area network connectivity
Navi (upgradeable)

I don't use most of these features but some have. My TL was a non navi so it made integration easier. I have a pioneer head unit with aux in. This became my PC sound input. I use a high end sound card in the carpc for excellent music playback
I've had mine for over 3 years, rock solid reliability/stability.

All of that is true. However, between an iPhone and the tl, you already have all of this functionality. The only thing I would use it for would be watching movies and this is only practical (not necessarily a safe idea) on long trips.

Iphones are pretty slick. My son has one.

What do you use the iphone for?
How big is the screen?
Do you have to hold it to access your apps?

Gotta remember too the technology in the TL is over 6 years old. Not a bad thing though. The head unit is pretty good.

I'm thinking in the future there will be an ipad type device that you can connect to your dash and take it with you when you get out of the car. Bigger screen than a iphone and all the functionality too.

i should have prob mentioned non nav tl 05 ..lol 6spd haha... and thanks guys for the input... i mean i know the difficulty level is up there but i was leaning more towards sounds, picture display and video/sounds interferance... for instance i heard from one of my friends that his cousin did it but he has crazyyyy interference in his speakers and hears like a winding sound

I thing king of pain may have something... How about an ipad install into the dash, this would cover all bases! It would be like the next gen carpc. I'm not going to do it but maybe one of the new carpc enthusiasts out there might try it out.
