Can't reliably answer calls with hfl

'06 TL 5AT. I can't seem to reliably answer a call via hfl. Phone is a basic Samsung VX-5300, nothing fancy. When a call comes in, I press the phone (answer) button on the steering wheel, and I'm lucky maybe only 1 out of 4 times to have the call connect; otherwise is cuts off the call. (And then, of course, the caller tries to call back, and I get caught in a 5-10 minute cycle of this because when I try to call THEM back, the incoming call comes in before I can complete MY call, etc etc, ARGH!) Am I doing something wrong or do I need to have my system recalibrated or otherwise fixed?

Unless I missed something, your phone is not "officially" supported according to Acura's website.

But am I correct that you should just be able to press the phone button when a call comes in, wait a couple seconds for the BT to sync, and it should work? Or is there some other technique??

Same situation here with a Samsung A640. When pressing the answer button, the call gets dropped.

If the phone is supported and works properly, the audio system will mute and a ring or voice saying "incoming call" (dependent on your settings) will sound. Then you press the phone button and talk as with any normal phone.

There is no waiting for Bluetooth since the phone will have synched with the car once the ignition was switched on (a little phone indicator will also show next to the clock if a phone is found and connected to the HFL).

If the phone is not on the HFL list, it's because the phone wouldn't work consistently with the HFL system.

Update: I was able to demonstrate the problem to my dealer service writer (at Joe Bullard Acura of Mobile, AL), who at first was sure the problem was my phone and not the car' he had "never had to replace anyone's HFL module before". Needless to say, when he called me the first time while there, it worked just fine. I insisted that he call me form his phone to me sitting in the car several times, and sure enough about 50% of the time I could answer the call but my mic would not kick in and he couldn't hear me on his end of the call. He agreed to have my HFL module replaced. It took a few days for the part to come in, bit it did, and so far I have been able to answer calls reliably all the time.

If your phone is not on the Acura "fully" supported list I would not expect the dealer to do anything for you.

I had a similar problem with my Motorola cell phone. After taking it to the dealer and calling the Acura help line without success, I called the Motorola help line. They asked if I had the phone set to answer when the phone was opened. I did have it set that way. When I changed the phone setting to answer by pushing a button on the phone, the HFL worked perfectly. It's been 6 months and no problems.

Try changing ring option

I had this issue as well with my 2005 TL. I had the HFL set for the incoming call notification instead of the ringing. I found somewhere on this forum, to change to the ringing option. After that, everything worked great. TRY IT.

My phone has always been set to answer upon pressing a key, not by opening it.

Thanks for the tip. I tried it and my samsung A640 can now receive calls perfectly.
