Call doesn't route through HFL automatically

As the title says, my call doesnt go through HFL on its own. The phone paired ok, everytime I turn on bluetooth on my Blackberry 9900 it connects without any issues. But when I make/receive a call it doesn't go through HFL, I have to go in to om-call options and manually select HFL on my phone. Any ideas? I previously used a Best Buy speakerphone and it worked effortlessly, so I know its not the phone.

When your phone is making the call (or already on the call), press the HFL button on your steering wheel and say "Transfer". It will transfer the call to HFL.

I was annoyed by this too, but then I found this thread which had that info: https://acurazine.com/forums/tl-tlx-frequently-asked-questions-95/have-you-found-any-new-features-3g-garage-l-001-summary-post-1-a-546085/

Are you dialing on your phone or through HFL? Just hit the button on the wheel, say dial, then the number. As long as Bluetooth is turned on it should work fine.

Thats odd, don't you think? Why would you have to do that since its already paired/connected? Its like you're re-pairing/connecting every time theres a call, but I guess I'll try it when I get to my car. Thanks for the info!

So far I've only dialed through the phone (only had the car for 2 days ). When you say "say the number," do you mean the actual phone number or the person's name?

Not sure if it matters, but I have an 06.

No problem dude. I actually understand why they did it. If I initiate a call from HFL or receive an incoming call, I would expect it to be handled with HFL. If I am making a call from my phone, I would expect it to default to my phone, otherwise I would have just called though HFL. I'm probably calling from my phone because either the road is too noisy, I have passengers and don't want to be rude, or the person on the other line wants to tell me a secret lol.

From an engineering standpoint, the Bluetooth specification is rather smart. The Bluetooth specification for Hands-Free Profile (v1.5) does not specify whether or not an audio connection is established to the Hands-Free (HF = car or headset) device when the Audio Gateway (AG = cell phone) initiates the call. However, it is mandatory for the audio connection to not be established when a call is placed in private mode. This leaves freedom to cell phone manufacturers to either A) do nothing and leave the default audio connection handling as private mode and make the user manually transfer to the hands-free device or B) allow the user to change their preferences on the device. In the scenario where the AG is placing the call, the HF device has absolutely no control over whether or not the audio will be transferred. In the attachment, you can see that the AG is what decides whether or not the audio connection is established when the AG places the call. (Look for the blue arrow pointing to the left that says 'audio connection setup'.)

Long story short, this has nothing to do with Acura's HFL according to the Bluetooth specification. If you can, try changing your Bluetooth settings in your phone. If you can't (I know I can't with my htc), then you're stuck saying "Transfer" every time you place a call from your phone, or doing it manually.

Oh and how rude of me, congrats on the new ride!!!!

Edit: Forgot to mention that the owner's manual for your car explains very well how to use HFL. If you don't have an owner's manual, you should definitely get your hands on one.

Check your BB's settings.

My Motorola has a "Car Settings" selection in the set-up menu: in "Car Settings," Auto Answer is "Off" and Auto Handsfree is "On."

Welcome to AZ.

Thanks for your help guys!

When I receive a call it actually does go through the HFL, so I was wrong. The more I think about it though, I find it better that it doesn't go through HFL automatically when I dial, it keeps me of the phone while driving! Haha. Thanks again.

I've had the same problem with my iphone 4S. When I had my old iphone 3G, the calls would automatically pair when I'd call. However, I haven't found anything on why the 4S doesn't just pair up like my old phone did.
