Burning plastic smell....

Okay heres my system in relation to front speakers which has been my main problem.

Stock radio-> 360.2-> 150.2 PDX amps-> crossovers-> speakers

Woofers went out about 3 months after install... tweeters not long after.

Replaced tweeters and everything sounded okay but at 40 vol I would get a scent of burning plastic. The tweeters were only 70 bucks... had the frequency within parameters on crossover and the 360.

So I finally bit the bullet bought some Boston Acoustic PRO60 SE's (from 5.25 type x components) huge difference from what I remember anyways but after a few hrs of breaking them in I crank it... the smell returns!!!!

I originally tapped into the stock harness to get to woofers and tweeters but today I replaced it all. Everything is 14guage wire now. Everything is soldered and shrink tubed.

I cannot whatsoever pin point the smell but only comes around at max volume.

Any ideas????? Similar Problems???? I am so lost because I've done all the work and I do it right the first time (try to) and I'm wondering if maybe something else.

I think the smell may be of you over-driving something a bit to much...

Either pushing them too hard, speaker wire heating up (too MUCH) .. If you are able to access all your speakers smell them and you will be able to tell if its a speaker or not..the burnt smell does not go away usually. Also smell your amp it may be driven too hard at those volumes.

The new components are 125w rms... i couldnt find a brand I trust with anything higher in a price range of ~$300.

Doesnt seem to becoming from the speakers... Im a smoker so my sense of smell is pretty much shot. At the gym last night I pumped it while I sat outside cooling off for about 15 mins and when I got in it was def. not as strong as before I replaced the wires. I think I may take a ride to a semi local audio shop see if they cant offer any input. Its gonna dent my ego though.

is it an amp or your 360 mounted to or in close proximity to plastic/ trim pannel???? Where did you mount the 360? where is the amp mounted? Did you reroute any factory wiring at or near the fac radio / factory amp locations???

I can only imagine the distortion and potential clipping going on leaving it at 40. I set mine so that I never have to turn it past 30.

Maybe try lowering the output of the 3sixty.2 down a bit and see if the speakers last a bit longer?

type-x ref are garbage, they were kicking pretty hard for a whole summer though, I have confidence the BA's will last.

if I up the signal on 360 so itll be just as loud on 30 as 40 right now, I get a very low but noticable buzz when everything is muted.

Smell is gone thank god... I think it was stock wiring to begin with then just breaking in the tweeters. Thanks for all the advice. I might be selling the beast to a friend, Im gonna go look at a type s in a few hrs.

Anyone have a link for a blue interior for type s thread?? Search for the last hr nothing useful. Damn LED lighting threads!
