Building your own passive crossover for the tweeters??

I'm out of channels on the MS8 (3way front, sub, and center)and I want to add the rears so it looks like I'm going to have to run the tweeters and mids off of a passive crossover to free up an extra two channels.

I could use my stock Dyn crossovers which sounded great but I don't want to use the stock crossover points. I don't want to change a thing from how it sounds now.

Is it possible for an amateur to build a passive crossover or would I be better off using the stock crossovers?

FWIW, now that I'm getting the hang of the MS8 and along with the center channel, some of the live CDs are starting to really sound like you're at a live concert. My ears are still ringing and I can barely hear anything from a 10 minute drive but it sure did sound good until my hearing started to go lol.

You used up all eight channels already? Not sure if you wanna do this, another option is to run 3 way active in the front, and use the center and sub channels for the rear fill. and go without center and sub processing. Thats how I have mines, but I have the 3sixty.2 jus running the output to the subs.

No, don't do that. Not with the MS8. Use the Dyn passives. They are made with audiophile quality grade components and built specifically for the speakers. The only other option is if the amp has built in pre-amp section you could use and run 2 channels into the amp and have them feed the 4 channels with a crossover point in between the mids and highs.

Call me, I need to talk to you about your kicks.

Why would you waste the MS8 on the rears where you might get 20% out of them anyway? Why not just run the rears off of the crossovers that come with them and leave everything alone?

Do you mean to bypass the MS8 on the rears? You pretty much have to run everything through the MS8. There would be an unwanted time delay on every other channel if you ran anything straight from the HU.

I'm not a rear fill guy but this thing makes it sound very good.

Why are you running tweets in the rear? Your imaging is gonna be out of whack. Just run the run the mids with the passive crossovers

No, he is saying to add rears of any sort, he would need to run a passive between the mids and tweets up front to free up signal channels of the MS-8. He is already using all 8 channels (3-way font active, center, sub = 8 channels). If he puts a passive between the mid and tweet in the front, he can free up 2 channels and assign those to be used as rear fill.

Sorry, I was in a hurry yesterday. The passives are going to be used for the front tweeters. The rears are going to be run off of the CTX65 crossovers if I even run a tweeter in the rear.

I might be going a different direction that does not involve the MS8 or center or rear speakers. I think for now the rears are going to be on hold until I decide if the MS8 is going to stay.

Yep. I was thinking about still trying it just to say I ran the full 7.1 but that's a lot of work just to do it when I know it's probably coming out soon. Thanks for all of your help this morning.

You could look into the Dynaudio 360-A for mids & tweets only.
