This question came up in my last topic.

I'm on a used TL search, particularly a 3g. I've been seeing ads saying their used TL's have bose premium sound. One picture of the interior of one of these "bose upgrade" cars still has "ELS" on the head unit.



Is this bose premium sound upgrade BS or does it mean something less visible like sub upgrade or something?

 

3G TL audio is by ELS Surround which is a collaboration of Acura, Panasonic and Elliot Scheiner.

Bose is for the 2nd gen TL and CL and 1st gen RL.

Only the RL bose system is any good IMO. It actually has highs and lows.

 

2nd gen RL has it too = )

 

i know this is a little off topic, but would u guys says the els system in the 3g is better than the bose system in the 2g?

 

I am not a Bose fan, way overhyped IMO. I haven't personally heard it in the 2G, but I prefer the ELS system over the Bose "premium" systems I have heard in other vehicles.

 

did you guys ever pop one of those (BOSE) headunits out of a CL or TL 2 Gen and see the pioneer sticker on it. I did when I was working at the dealer.

 

Long story short... All 3G TL have Bose premium sound system which has been tuned by Elliot Scheiner. But because Panasonic owns Bose it is not called Bose anymore (in Acuras). But it is still Bose, ...or Panasonic... what ever you prefer.

 

Yes, the 3rd gen TL has a much better sound system then the 2nd gen.

I've owned a '97, '03 and '05 TL. And a '02 RL.

 

The Dolby Prologic II, I think that's what its called, is amazing in the TL-S!! I wish my TL had it.

 

I listen to all my music with 5.1 dolby on. Sounds so different. Much more clarity.

I'm still not impressed with anything I've seen from BOSE. I don't like it when manufacturers refuse to list important spec's like watts per channel, frequency response, Total Harmonic distortion. Nothing against anyone here but I just don't like BOSE.

Bose is a privately held firm, Amar Bose is still the primary stockholder.

Some RSXs have Bose stereos too. Ms1995hoo has a 2003 RSX Type-S and the factory stereo is a Bose. I found that a little surprising when we first test-drove it simply because of the hatchback design.

 

the 07/08 has the option to turn it on/off

 

There is a joke said throughout the audio industry. I heard it years and years ago. Still is accurate! "No highs no lows , it must be Bose".

You're right.. all the Type S's had Bose in the RSX.

NSX and some Legends had Bose as well.
