Blown Subwoofer?
Blown Subwoofer?
Hello acurazine, im looking for an expert in this area, because im not too knowledgible at audio. I have a jl audio 500.1 amp that was connected to a 10w7 subwoofer. One day the sub stopped playing so i tryed to connect a sony xplode sub to the amp, and that sub worked for awhile. I knew i was going to blow the xplode from all that power, and that day has come. When i try to push down on the xplode with my hand it wont move at all, but i can push in the w7. When i push in the w7 though there is a slight skeaking noise. I find it hard to believe that I blew the W7 from 500 watts. Anyone have any insight?

ya i hated that xpolde haha, but I was given it for free and was without a subwoofer so why not. but just took it in today and found out it was blown, bought a brand new 12w6, so problem solved
They will bend you over and rape you with no lube for a recone. You can't get a recone kit directly from JL. You would have to send it in and let them recone it, but it will set you back atleast $300.
Team PSI could've did it if it were the 12" version.
Here's a recone they did

So I got in a 12W7 the other day. The surround was done. It has been rubbing against something enough to wear all the way through the foam surround.
So LETS CUT IT APART......

The first hurdle to jump, the basket. I surely dont have any weird, edgeless, extra big cones here... I guess I'll need to use a new basket. to do this, I have to re-drill and tap new screw holes on the top plate. :angry5:

That's a PITA of a process there. It's not fast, or easy, or cheap to do.
Now, on to the soft parts....

The old coil was kinda, meh. I decided to make some new nice flatwind coil for it.
Dual 1.4 ohm
The owner requested that I use a 12 spoke basket, here it is with the new basket, coil, suspension, and leadwire...

Is that PINK thread......

Direct connect leads

Looks at that coil!

Now she's all done, new cone and all.
