It is possible to tap into the head unit itself. My installer did it. I just used the center and front outputs since I don't care about the surround sound thing, but I think that all six signals are accessible.
He won't say exactly where he found it, but I think he soldered onto the head unit board to get the signal.
I used 3-way DLS Iridium speakers up front, stock in the rear and an old-school ADS 12" sub in the trunk. 3 Zapco Studio 300x's, 1 Zapco Studio 100 and one Zapco Studio 50 (center). Processing through a Zapco sx-sl and crossed by a TRU F-2A. Crossing over the 3-ways actively was a challenge until I tried the TRU. It required a fair amount of equalization, also.
I have all the normal center channel functions. Sounds awesome and totally stealth except for the sub box.

Those rims are "Spinners". A friend of mine has some Black ones on his Lexus SUV.. They are very expensive and only spin clockwise.
Spinners in general are ugly to me, with the (VERY) rare instance on an Escalade-type SUV...
