Unhappy Random Track and DVD-A

I've burned several DVD-A discs with MANY tracks. They play fine, but when I select Random Track play I find that the random selection seems to favor the lower track numbers. It will eventually jump to some higher ones, but it doesn't appear to be truly random across the full 99 songs.

Have other people experienced this? Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Maybe some programmer can shed more light on this, but I don't think there is really a way to write a program that generates truely random numbers. I think it depends on the seed value given to the random number generator. If you use the same seed you will get the same track selection everytime. Maybe the selection of seed values choosen in this program tends to cause it to use lower numbers first.

I've found all CD player random functions to be less than random. A lot of times it will play two consecutive tracks in a row.

No 'random number generator' truly generates random numbers as AMIC said. The best seed value is one that will always be different (such as current time). Anyway, I have no idea how the random function is working on our headunits. The best way to get around having the same track play would be to keep a list of all previously played tracks, and if the random number gen picks that same track, pick another one (multiple ways of doing that). Nothing's perfect.

That doesn't mean it's not random play.

As for suggestions, it's just how it works - I don't think there's anything you can do about it.

I understand that a random function could play two tracks in a row. I guess I shouldn't have used the word random I should have used "less desireable" or something to that effect. I think the original poster's intent with his/her question was that he/she wanted the "randomness" to be one low track, one high track, etc.

Random Play and DVD-A

My concern was that since you can only request through voice command the first 30 tracks, I thought maybe the random track generator also favored these tracks for some reason. This seems doubtful, but was curious whether others had observed a similar phenomenon.

The random selector will eventually select higher tracks, so they're not being ignored altogether.
