AV Electronics Basic video interface

I am installing the AV Electronics basic unit (very similar to DOM's Unit). I think I'm having an issue with the parking brake wire or something is going on...

The unit blacks the screen out after about 30 seconds. I have the red power wire going to a switch and the black (ground) and yellow (parking break wire) going to ground (just to test to make sure everything works).

If I start the car with the power switch turned on, the video plays fine for about 30 seconds and then the screen goes black. If I start the car, wait about 30 seconds, then turn the power on, it will stay on.

So I figured it was the parking break wire messing with me...so I tried the video 2 imput for the backup camera...I wired the blue (reverse +12 volt wire) to the red power wire, grounded the black wire, and disconnected the yellow parking brake cable. This is actually how it says to hook it up in the instructions if it is only used for a backup camera.

So I test and if I start the car, then turn the unit on, the video continues to play. If I start the car with the power switch on, it turns off after ~30 seconds.

What the hell? I think this is what is happening, it got dark on me and I ran out of testing time, but it seems like if I wait to turn it on it stays on sometimes...even then that doesn't always seem to work...

Ideas? More testing tomorrow...

My guess is the pesky nav screen, the AV electronic unit does not stop the nag screen from coming up. This drove me crazy on my install too. Either wait until you hit ok on the nav screen then switch to the video feed or just tap in the area of the ok button after a few seconds with your video feed coming through...little confusing...understand?

That seems to be it! I just watched about 30 minutes of video...I did this last time too and it didn't shut off until I started driving, but I have not tried it again since I re-wired it all. I think it's ok now! Got my 07 accord fog light switch installed too.

Thanks! iPod video on navi is coooooool!
