Audio Install Opinion

Hi Guys! Just wanted to get your expert opinion on a amp and sub install price. I got quoted $630 for an Alpine MRP-M350 amp and SWR-1242D type s sub 12" and the shop will cutom make the box to run across the small slim inside portion of the trunk. What do you guys think of the price? I'm not very good with electrical installs so I don't want to do it myself. Thanks for your opinions.

the price seems ok but a 12" may interfere with your access to your spare. I would check on that.

I've just read a post regarding cleansweep. Is it absolutely neccessary? Will it sound horrible without it? For those with just the amp and sub, how does the bass sound? Thanks

Dude! That price is pretty good! Only if the install is good!I do Car audio for a living, and there is a lot of places out there that SUCK!! But that is decent! What made you decide with 1 12? I have two 10's and it rocks!! Check out the pictures of my car in the link below! Its a tight fit, but you will be able to get to your spare just fine!!

MDOC,

How big is the difference between a 12 and two 10's? Also, how do ARC subs rate?

MDOC, your setup as well as your car looks pretty sweet. I chose the 1 12" because there was a package deal on it and the amp. I didn't want to spend too much money on it. By the way, did you use the cleansweep on yours?

No I did not use a cleansweap! Its not necessary! My car sounds great! 1 12 will probably sound pretty good! I chose 2 10's because I like the tight base! If I had an SUV then I would start going with 12's! But I just perfer 10's in cars! But 1 12 will still sound really good!

First off your mentioning 2 different subs... You give the model # for Type R's but you say Type S, let us know which one it is. If its Type R's its an ok deal if installed if not I would pass. Secondly that amp is not strong enough for Type R's its putting out 350 rms and the Type R can handle 500w. I have one 12" Type R with the MRD-M605 and its putting out 660 watts and its pounds.

Thanks, MDOC. By the way, can you recommend a couple of really good 12" subwoofers?

If you are just adding subs.....it is probably not absolutely necessary, but if you are changing your interior speakers and adding an amp it wont sound as good without it.
You wont be doing your speakers justice.

Well tthe 12 inch subs depend on how much you want to spend! Morel makes some dang good speakers! They are way pricie, but dang good! Boston Makes some good ones, and JL is also really good! One 12 that hits really good for the price is Rockford! They are making a comeback!!

Do you think it will make any difference replacing the front speakers without upgrading the factory amp? Just wondering if I were to decide to do it in the future.

I would think it would be an upgrade but you would be limiting the true capabilities of your speakers......

Yea, it might sound a little better but not much! Because the odds are, the aftermarket speakers that you put in could handle a lot more power then what the factory amp can give it! So it would probably be in your best interest to upgrade the amp and speakers if you were going to replace anything!

Good thread. One more question...I've decided on Focal subs (polyglass). Just not sure whether to get one 13" or two 11". Will the sound quality be better with the 11's?

Well How much bass do you want? Do you want to be heard from 100 yards away, or do you just want really good sound quality inside the car! Because one 11 would even sound really good inside the car with the right amp!! It would sound ten times better then the factory! But if you want people to here you comin, two 11's for sure! You could go with 13's, but I just feel like those are strictly for big SUV's!!! Good luck! Let me know what you do!!
