Another Nexus 7 tablet install
Another Nexus 7 tablet install
Finally got around to doing this.. took me alot longer than i thought probably around 7 hours total from start to finish.. mainly because it was my first time taking apart the center console in this car, i didnt want to break or scuff anything up
i know almost nothing of car audio/wiring/electrical things but because i was able to gather all the info from all the other members on this board and over on xda the install itself wasnt all that bad... i would say it was around 6/10 difficulty for a first timer like myself
so i have a 05 TL w/navi and the main problem i ran into was space... since i still needed to have the actual navi unit still in the car so i can have use of all my fan/ac buttons i had remove the metal housing of the navi unit and then flip the screen and secured it... time consuming in the end but everything ended up fitting just right there was no cutting into the dash or center console at all... if i ever have to revert back to stock i have the option to at anytime
my setup went something like this...
nexus 7 --> OTG-Y Cable --> 6ft micro usb 28AWG to 2.1A car charger in arm rest
OTG-Y Cable --> 6ft usb extension 28AWG to arm rest ---> 4 Port USB Hub --> Fiio E7 USB DAC (upper arm rest) --> Grom Audio Aux Adapter --> OEM 6 Disc CD Changer
im grandfathered with verizon on the 4G unlimited so i wifi hotspot to supply the tablet with internet
with this setup i have a fully functional OEM AM/FM Radio, CD, Tape, and HFL... i press CD twice and it changes to CD-C which then gives me audio from my tablet/dac
and im using the last rom update from Timur's USB Rom 4.2.2

the home screen layout is actually just a wallpaper i put together.. i used desktop visualizer to make transparent shortcuts and placed them over the wallpaper... then i used UCCW to make the clock date and temp on the left side of the screen
thread from the dead! how is your tablet setup holding up? any tips or advice you'd do differently after having it for 2 years? looking to add this to my setup! i'm looking at triax37's thread as my main source but curious to see your thoughts on it since you started pretty fresh and new to changing up wiring/electrical stuff
