Another Navi Mod Idea

Alright, with all the hype on the TSX boards and here about changing out the boot screen on the Navi system, it got me thinking...

Does anyone know if the 05 RL uses the same basic Navi setup as the TL/TSX? If it does, it might be possible to use an RL Navi disk with little or no modifications to get AcuraLink traffic on a TL. It already has the satellite linkup via XM...

I don't know anyone with an RL so I can't try it. If anyone does know someone with an RL, would you mind testing it out?

Oh, and I did a search and I couldn't find anyone who suggested this before, so forgive me if it's been done.

I get BMW update discs on EBAY.
It's worth a shot to check for what you're looking for.

Its not merely a software issue, its also a hardware issue (plain and simple, its different). Brokedoc (i think) tried the RL navi disc and it will NOT work in the RL. The navi showed an error, the type of disc the RL uses is different from the TL disc, where the TL and TSX share the same disc.

What you could attempt is to swap the navi from the RL into the TL. Quite a feat, but at least someone has put a Navi from a Navi TL into a Non-Navi TL with sucess.

It actually wouldnt be that hard(well, in terms of how hard it could be). The only thing that would have to be changed is the trunk unit(which also may need ot be linked to XM) So swapping that out should be a few bolts and harnesses. I havent done it so I am not sure. Is there a subscription fee to traffic update?

More than that, probably extra wiring, the Nav Unit, the XM tuner, not to mention the control unit, someone with the wiring diagrams for the RL could tell us

I was actually considering finding a '05 Ody or MDX nav unit (no navtraffic, and touchscreen support), and swapping it. I wonder if it would just plug and play...

It's the RL navi, without navtraffic. Or its the Ody navi with HFL.
